I loved the warm welcome from the hosts themselves. including food treats, flowers, handmade soap, robe and slippers. my dog was just as important, with his own tray of thoughtful items. the decor and attention to detail was very my vibe, I do love a place with history. The information folder was engrossing and helpful for my 3 night stay on Sanday. It’s a very special island Dave and Jackie’s communication was appreciated and I felt very looked after, especially as I accessed the cottage earlier than expected-what a treat!

Sanday has lots to see and do that you can find on the visitsanday site, but things that are on other islands obviously cannot be accessed easily. THE INFORMATION BELOW IS ACCURATE. SEE OUR SITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA FOR MORE INFORMATION. Literally a stone’s throw from a mile-long sandy beach, BACKASKAILL FARMHOUSE boasts panoramic views from almost every room. The characterful, B-listed farmhouse has been decorated and equipped to a high standard and makes the most of its romantic location. On the ground floor a charming, kitchen/dining room with range, a utility/WC/shower room, and a master suite. A stunning unique hallway and staircase lead to the first floor. The living room has panoramic views across the bay and a multi-fuel stove for cosy evenings. There are two further bedrooms and a bathroom. The enclosed garden features outdoor dining and a summerhouse. BACKASKAILL COTTAGE is a cosy one-bedroom traditional farm-servants’ cottage nestled in a farm steading, adjacent to a beach that feels like it’s yours and yours alone. It enjoys views across farmland and exclusive use of the back garden which is laid to lawn. A small, walled front garden provides a sheltered bistro-style outdoor dining area. The cottage features a well-equipped kitchen/dining room with range, a spacious living room with extra bed if needed, comfortable conservatory, and double bedroom with shower room. KILNBARN COTTAGE, nestled between sweeping sandy bays sits with its toes in the sea. Its picture windows give ocean views from every room. The Isle of Sanday is one of Scotland’s best-kept secrets. Remote, wild and breathtakingly beautiful. Aside from complete peace and quiet, there’s also lots to see and do across this wonderful little island. Sanday boasts outstanding wildlife on land and at sea. You can see rare birds and flora, and perhaps otters, orca, and other marine species in the crystal-clear northern waters.
