Offering free WiFi and sea views, Harbor Cottage is an accommodations located in Stromness. Lovely, cozy cottage looking over the ferry terminal in Stromness. After four weeks on the road, we loved having a very fully equipped kitchen where we could cook food purchased from the grocery about a block away. We took advantage of the washer and drying rack to winnow down the clothes we brought to Orkney for our 4 day trip, and the machine worked beautifully. From the day before we arrived, our host David made himself available for any questions, problems or concerns. While we never met him in person, our questions were supported through quickly responded emails. We greatly appreciated how comfortable this apartment was for us. We spent our days out visiting sites around the islands and welcomed the comfortable recliner sofas and Netflix equipped television with which to relax in the evenings. This apartment was instrumental to how much we liked our first Orkney visit!

We have visited Stromness before but wanted to explore the surrounding area some more. We really enjoyed the coastal walks and a walk up Brinkies Brae for the fantastic views especially of Hoy. The long and winding Main Street never fails to delight us despite having walked up and down it many times over the years. We enjoyed browsing the little gift shops and chatting to the locals. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. It was a bustling little place without being too busy. Watching the ferries loading/offloading and fishing boats docking is part of the day while enjoying an Orkney ice cream.
Stromness is really quaint. There are some good independent shops and a supermarket. But the thing that impressed us most was the walk from the campsite out past the cemetary and beyond. Stunning views of the hills on Hoy, really clean sea. It's just so refreshing. Kirkwall is only about 10 miles away with all the range of shops and taking the long way round takes you through great scenery.
Incredible history you cannot see and touch anywhere else on earth. Stunning views around every corner, relatively easy access by bus and ferry, incredible, plentiful walking trails, good food markets with reasonable prices, citizens dedicated to social distancing and mask wearing. Orkney in general is a utopia to raise children and easily somewhere I’d retire!
Stromness is a lovely little town - very picturesque, but there is not very much to do there, and there are few places to eat in the evening. Because the weather was not great during our stay, we couldn't make our trips to some of the other islands so we took the bus into Kirkwall on a couple of days to find something to do.
Stromness is a really cute town to wander around. It has lots of interesting back streets and buildings to explore. Unfortunately, we didn't try a lot of the places to eat there. We did go to the Stromness hotel for dinner last night. The steak was amazing, but the restaurant was very dated but in a interesting way.
The place is lovely, loads to do during the day, but on an evening apart from the 2 hotels and the Ferry Inn to have something to eat that's it, the local Chinese didn't open even though the opening times said it should have been open, might have been that it was the first wk in September and things were closing down, as our room wasn't one you wanted to stay in to watch TV and wind down, if we ever go again I would go for a house to rent then you have a chair or settee to sit on and watch TV and a table to have a meal on as the Co-op is open till late
The location was perfect for our trip, close to the major sites on the island. The appartment was cosy and clean .
