With a photogenic town centre as well as the 11th century Ludlow Castle standing proudly on a cliff overlooking the River Teme, it’s a pleasant day out as well as a good base for walking and cycling. The town is also a foodie favourite, thanks to all the great local produce – if you’re here in September don’t miss the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival. For a different type of atmosphere, Bewdley is an attractive Georgian town that’s right on the banks of the River Severn. Bewdley Museum showcases the local crafts and traditional way of life of the Marches. While you’re at Bewdley, why not hop onto the Severn Valley Steam Railway? The line links Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, a distance of sixteen miles or so. It’s a full-size, standard-gauge railway, but the emphasis is on steam! Near to Bewdley is the West Midland Safari Park, home to over 165 species of exotic animals.
