The Hall is full of character and had everything you could need. It was spotlessly clean and the garden was lovely and quite large. Very peaceful with Semer Lake very nearby. Lots of places to eat within a short driving distance

Please note; two upstairs rooms closed off since this updated listing (used to be 4 bedrooms to let). Please note; Aga switched off June til end of August as it makes kitchen extremely warm otherwise. There is a double electric oven and 4 ring hob that can be used instead. We pride ourselves on offering stylish, comfortable and welcoming accommodation for all of our guests. The house is cleaned to a very high standard and has professionally laundered linen. We can accommodate up to 7 guests, when Beebole Cottage, opposite, is also booked with the main house (sleeps 2 with king size bed) - see our other listing. The hall was home to Richard Robinson in the 1650s who introduced Quakerism to the Dales and it is rumoured that Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the hall for one night en route to Bolton Castle in 1568. Parts of the house date back to the 12th century. The hall has a wonderfully calm, peaceful atmosphere. Food scene; we can recommend the King's Arms pub or The Crown in Askrigg, The Yorebridge House Hotel restaurant and Simonstone Hotel restaurant, The Wensleydale Heifer at West Witton for dinner, the Bake-well Cafe in Askrigg, Fish and chips in Hawes. Elijah Allen in Hawes sells excellent local produce. Please note: Search Countersett Hall for further info. We pay 15% commission to Booking here. Children of all ages welcome, you are welcome to bring a travel cot.
Countersett is a tiny, peaceful hamlet, located close to the stunning Lake Semerwater, it is the perfect place to 'get away from it all' and is noted for its peace and quiet. There are numerous walks and castles, stately homes, waterfalls etc within easy reach of the house. There's fishing, water sports including paddle boarding and kayaking at Lake Semerwater nearby (5 minutes' walk) and alpaca trekking. The Dales agricultural shows throughout the summer and early autumn are well worth a visit. There is plenty of local information at the hall. The house is situated in a very peaceful and private location, but only 5 minutes' drive from Bainbridge, or 5 minutes' from Askrigg and 10 minutes from Hawes. Wensleydale is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of the Dales by many. The house is encircled by richly planted gardens, teeming with wildlife. The night skies are a sight to behold in this area of minimal light pollution. There is an excellent restaurant at Yorebridge House Hotel, 5 minutes drive from the house and cosy pubs at Bainbridge, Askrigg & Hawes serving hearty meals. Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda all deliver to the house. There are shops in Hawes selling fantastic local produce too. Nearest large supermarkets are at Catterick.
