Really underestimated part of the country with beautiful...

Really underestimated part of the country with beautiful countryside and a huge amount of history and attractions. The Bowes Museum is well worth a visit. Kynren especially the evening show is superb. I wanted to visit Beamish and the locomotion museums but ran out of time!"

Nice area, went out for meals at night, the odd pub didn't serve food after 6.30pm which was a be odd, didn't go back. A bit disappointed with the castle it seem to have more advertised on Internet but when we went we didn't think there was much there, not value for money,.

The highlights were the Bowes Museum ans the Castle.

The highlights were the Bowes Museum ans the Castle. Finding food on Sunday evening especially was impossible. Barnard Castle is easy to get around, very compact. The town has some lovely independent shops and a LOT of very friendly people!

The whole town seems to be a happy place.

The whole town seems to be a happy place. A lot of interesting things to see and do within easy distance of the town. Plenty of shops and eating places. It does have some hilly streets but don't be put off, the area around the castle is beautifully laid out with seats to test when visiting the castle

Barnard Castle is a lovely place but the Main Street is very...

Barnard Castle is a lovely place but the Main Street is very steep so not good for people with heart or mobility issues. Be aware that most of the shops close at about 5 - 5.30pm so no late night shopping. The town is a good base for visiting tourist attractions in the area (Eggleston Hall Nursery and Gardens, High and Low Force waterfalls) but care required in choosing accommodation.

Barnard Castle has attractions for most.

Barnard Castle has attractions for most. We enjoyed the riverside walks. The castle has so much history as does the town itself. The Bowes museum is a place to visit, a museum like no other, the history of the place is incredible. Regular buses run here and there throughout the day, we just left the car parked up. Eating places for all tastes and lots of coffee shops.

The property was comfortable, warm and cosy. It was incredibly well equipped, lovely fire for a winter break and very good wifi. The beds were comfortable and the house felt like a home from home. The hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming. Would highly recommend this property. Also, Barnard Castle itself is a lovely market town, lots of lovely cafes and pubs, lots do in the surrounding area and it was lovely and festive in the town for Christmas/new year celebrations with beautiful trees and beautifully decorated shops.

Fabulous spacious property with gorgeous views of the river and a short walk into Barnard Castle. Beautiful high quality furnishings and kitchen fully equipped for cooking. Lovely lounge area with high quality comfortable seating. Free off road parking very close by. Very accommodating host who allowed early check in and late check out which was much appreciated.

We absolutely loved the cottage, it had everything you could need and , only 2 miles out of Barnard Castle on a farm couldn't get any better for what we wanted. It was lovely and clean and cozy and Sheila had provided milk and breakfast items and home grown potatoes which was so thoughtfull. We would definatly be looking to book again.
