United KingdomThis is a beautiful place to stay. The staff are lovely very efficient and friendly. If you want a break to relax and recharge your batteries this is the place to be. The food is amazing we had an evening meal and breakfast. The lady on reception was so nice. Booking. Com had mixed our booking up and gave us the wrong room but she quickly rectified this error. The round copper bath is the icing on the cake. I will look forward to our next stay as we will definitely be returning maybe in the summer to explore the beautiful surroundings. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Both meals were very well presented and tasted delicious. All of the staff were very attentive and made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. Nice room , groundfloor so perfect for dog , comfortable bed , shower-room etc , clean and comfy, plenty of storage , good telly , easy access to walks - lanes and paths and village . The Croxdale is a friendly pub as well as hotel plus there are others in the area like the Green Tree - a nice walk away that does lunches. Bus service into town is frequent and affordable and close by . There is a riverside walk from nearby along the river into the City which is a delight .

Everything was great! The staff were really helpful providing all the details for a late arrival, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing, especially the homemade marmalade, which was absolutely delicious! It's just a short walk from the town center, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Highly recommended!

Brilliant hotel, great value for money, better than many hotels with much more inflated prices.
Staff friendly, down to earth and helpful. Sharon especially gets a mention. Room high quality, great WiFi, very quiet despite being close to busy road. Easy access from A1. Ideal location for visiting both Durham and Newcastle.

It’s a very nice place, breakfast was really good and the bar is great. It’s pretty good located, although it’s not SO close to the city, it’s very close to the train station and durham is a really small place so it takes 10 min Max to be in downtown.

We absolutely loved the old part of the city with the...
We absolutely loved the old part of the city with the cobbled streets, historic properties, the spectacular cathedral, the castle and the riverside walk.
We were astonished by the huge number of students from all over the world and the brilliant atmosphere they created around the old streets. There were an incredible number of places to eat and drink - something to suit every taste!
We found a multistorey car park close to the river which was very reasonable and handy for the places we wanted to go.
Going to Beamish was absolutely worth it too.

Really underestimated part of the country with beautiful countryside and a huge amount of history and attractions.
The Bowes Museum is well worth a visit. Kynren especially the evening show is superb.
I wanted to visit Beamish and the locomotion museums but ran out of time!"

Absolutely loved the warm welcome at reception and was taken to our retreat lodge were the room was very spacious and beautifully decorated and equipped. Nothing was too much trouble. We would 100% recommend to anyone and we will return in a heartbeat ***** We chose this because we wanted to visit Beamish living museum and it was perfect. We ate breakfast and dinner onsite it was delicious.

My son and I had a nice stay with a few niggles the mattress was so soft it was uncomfortable and at breakfast there was no salt & paper on the table , no sugar and when shown to our table we weren't even informed of the continental breakfast room, for a four star establishment I would have expected these ,, they’re basics ,, overall our stay was nice

This place is just perfect for a romantic getaway or a family trip. The access to the lake and the beautiful countryside, just made our stay even greater. The staff member at breakfast and the lady at the reception were so welcoming that we are really greatful for all their help. Wishing all of them the very best.

Visiting family town center is a bit rundown but where isn’t now days? Lots of big shops local restaurants pubs to explore found it a good place to center yourself for trips to Hadrians wall Newcastle Sunderland all short drives.

Really good amenities in the town.
Really good amenities in the town. Large supermarket within walking distance. The seafront was lovely, very clean and pretty. The cafés and restaurants we used were very good quality and value for money. Lot's of choice to suit every taste. The people were so friendly, I will definitely be visiting again

The castle and grounds is amazing, very interesting and very beautiful. The Spanish Gallery is incredible - to find such a superb collection here and so well displayed. The Mining Art Gallery is well worth a visit. The wider town is very run-down but great efforts are being made to reinvigorate it and it is beginning to show. The people are also very pleasant. Currently hard to find nice places to stay and to eat out, but that will get better. A new central hotel is currently being built. There are a couple of pleasant cafes and a Wetherspoons in a historic central building. Our second visit, and we will be back again.

Me and my son had the most relaxing time.
Me and my son had the most relaxing time. The hot tube was lovely and warm, we had ropes and slippers in the room. The sauna didn’t use much but was a good touch. The fridge was full of milk water juice and Prosecco all free of charge! Big tv will all apps. Lovely get away I can’t wait to return already.
