Close to local attractions. Pub staff very friendly and accommodating. Food was absolutely delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. Took their recommendation and went to the bull in Colchester. Great night with live music. Our accommodation was very clean. We had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable.

The Donkey & Buskins is a grade 2 listed pub with a unique name. Set in the village of Layer de la haye, which is within 1 mile of one Europe's top wetland sites Abberton reservoir. We offer comfortable accommodation separate from the pub in a converted barn with its own private garden shared between 2 units. Overlooked by woodland. Included in the price of your stay is, an in-room breakfast, consisting of a choice of cereals, fresh milk and fresh orange juice, yogurts and a piece of fresh fruit. There is a small fridge in the room for your convenance. We serve excellent food all day
Lots of walks bird watching at Abberton Reservoir Mersea Island is about 6 miles all so historic Colchester
