The space The Danish word “hygge” - describing an atmosphere or environment of extreme warmth, cosiness or charm - could have been coined for The Beach Overlook. Snug, set hidden amongst trees on a hillside overlooking the Thames estuary at a point where the far shore is over the horizon, virtually the open sea, it’s a brand new renovation of a 15 year old wooden cottage. On a windy night the waves thunder on the beach just 30 metres away while the gale whistles around the cottage, with its elevated views across the stormy water to the lights of freighters far out in the shipping lanes. And yet the house has the sort of tranquility you wouldn’t expect less than a mile from a traditional seaside town. The closest dwelling is at least 30 metres away across a meadow bank. It’s actually difficult to take a picture of the house that shows any other buildings. To the north east, the nearest dwelling is over 500 miles away, in Norway! Herne bay is a popular seaside resort on the Kent coast. It has been called Kent’s classic seaside town with traditional seaside attractions including a pier which is the second longest in Britain, amusements and a long sandy beach seafront that stretches two miles of coastline with colourful beach huts and seafront gardens, the perfect picture of a classic British seaside. Whilst visiting you can learn about the history of Herne Bay at the seaside museum which holds sea life, birds and fossils and a special exhibit that looks into the development of bombs used in World War Two that were tested offshore of Herne bay. A few miles off Herne bay there is Wildwood, a fourty acre site that homes more than 200 species of animals. The 75 foot clock tower on the seafront is one of Herne Bays Landmarks and is believed to be the oldest freestanding clock tower in the world. In the town you can explore the little stores including independent business such as boutiques and gift shops.
