It was self catering which suited us. We were left a lovely welcome pack of milk etc. A very peaceful base from which to explore the beautiful countryside.

Sheila’s Cottage is a beautiful one bedroom stone cottage set on a 25 acre small holding. The cottage is a recently refurbished barn conversion ideally located just 2 miles from the historic market town of Barnard Castle. The property is two story. The ground floor is open plan and comprises of a well equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge area with a television. The upper level offers an en-suite and bedroom with a king sized bed. The en-suite has both bath and shower facilities. A pull-out bed is also available on request for a third guest. The property offers private parking, private American porch style seating area to the front and pretty courtyard to the rear with outdoor seating and dining area. The outdoor areas are secure and ideal for dogs. Dogs are subject to an additional fee. We allow maximum one dog. We have an identical cottage across the courtyard therefore this is a shared area. We have barbecues which are available on request. You are also invited to share and explore the 25 acres of surrounding land which are home to the owners’ chickens, sheep and horses.
Sheila’s Cottage and the surrounding farm are owned by Phil and Sheila Douglas who live in the main farmhouse. They have owned the farm for over 20 years and are well placed for offering advice on the local area as well as recommending pubs, restaurants and cafés. Sheila’s cottage has functioned as a byre and stables before being lovingly converted to a farm cottage in 2020.
Sheila’s Cottage is ideally located just 2 miles from the historic market town of Barnard Castle. It has a unique charm with its cobbled streets, quaint alleyways and rich history. Some of its tourist hotspots include the dramatic castle, the Market Cross and the Bowes Museum. Barnard Castle is also a haven for shoppers and treasure seekers with its many antique shops and independent retailers providing a unique shopping experience. Nearby places to visit include: Egglestone Hall Gardens also known as the Secret Garden of the North, Raby Castle and High Force. It is also the perfect base for exploring the great outdoors and experiencing the beauty of the surrounding countryside, including Teesdale, Weardale and the Durham Dales. There are walking and cycling opportunities galore! Some of our favourite spots to visit include High Force and Low Force, Raby Castle and Egglestone Abbey.
