Loved the setting and our room. Bed comfortable though new mattresses need to be on the horizon for change. Rooms in hotel are very very dark. Facilities very good. Lovely to have lift for my mobility issues. Excellent bathroom. Staff we met were excellent polite and accomodating. Thank you

Good location at the centre of Oakham. Some bottled water provided - probably because it would have been impossible to fill the kettle from the tiny sink in the bathroom. The shower functioned.

Oakham is such a lovely place to wander around. You could start at the Castle Cottage cafe within the castle grounds and see the walls of horseshoes, wander down the high street to the small-but-perfectly-stocked Walkers bookshop and pick up the best pork pie from Leesons butchers or perfect bap from Hoagies next door. Pop into Victoria Hall for art from local artists and watch Oakham's resident potter in action. Lots of independent shops.
The museum is free and was surprising excellent (loved the friendliness of the staff and the good selection of gifts for children and arty people).
There is a market on Wednesday and Saturday - veg and a baker, with florist, fishmonger, butcher, dairy and picture framing among others.
Dog friendly banking hub if you need cash, And so many great pubs!
Recommendations: Jamel's cafe, Sarpech (fancy Indian), Hitchins Barn (fancy English), Mill Street for fancy shops then through to the Maltings for Rocka-Buy Records, Finkey and Dean Street are cute to walk along. The Grainstore brewery do tours which come with a ploughmans, and you'll want to stay local or catch the train home afterwards! Ovation for wine and cocktails. For lounging near a fire, try Wisteria Hotel or the George on the market square.
There seems to be a lot of concerts in the park in the summer (most Sundays), and lots of beer festivals too (CAMRA in the museum, the grainstore pub). The library and the museum have leaflets for what's on. Wednesday lunch you might be able to catch a free Oakham School concert in All Saints Church.
If you are into bird-watching, apparently Rutland Water is one of the best places for it.
Trains don't run on Sunday mornings - one to bear in mind if you want to visit Stamford (which is easiest by train).
Public toilets: Church Street, in the castle or one in the library.

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

I have travelled to oakham for over 9 years now, I live in Lincoln but have workshop and customer in Oakham . I am still finding new things when I’m there and the surrounding areas including Rutland waters always worth a trip
Very warm welcome from Bennie when we arrived. The food we had for dinner was really tasty, and served promptly, and with a smile. Our room was very warm and the bed very comfortable.Tea and coffee provided, and the use of a kettle as well as coffee maker. Bar area and dining area a little cold, but it was very cold outside! All in all we enjoyed our stay, and would stay again.
The location is great. The village of Hambleton is beautiful and well located in the middle of Rutland Water. Hambleton Hall is very close and well worth a visit. The pub areas are varied and welcoming, from old nooks with fireplaces to a very nice modern dining room. Oakham is easily reachable, and is a sweet town with good restaurant / pub choices.
Fabulous location near to Rutland Water. Lovely hotel, great staff and tastefully presented. The breakfast is all locally sourced food and is absolutely delicious. We had an evening meal, and again, cannot be faulted and very reasonably priced. All staff we had the pleasure of meeting were really warm and welcoming.
Great location, quiet, but central enough to access the town of Oakham and surrounding areas of Rutland and beyond. Beautiful cottage, comfortable, cozy and clean. Lovely welcoming hosts who have made the cottage feel more like a home. Definitely recommend staying here if anyone is thinking of visiting the area.
Fantastic view from the room and very comfortable bed.
The hotel was very clean and the restaurant was nicely decorated, again making the most of the views.
Rutland Water was very accessible for walks straight from the door.
Nice decoration and great to have tea, coffee, water and bath robes in the room.
Fabulous old rectory in a quiet village outside Oakham. Friendly, helpful host. Easy parking. Good WiFi. Comfortable bed in a spacious, en-suite room overlooking the gravel driveway. No traffic noise so slept soundly. Best breakfast I've ever had in a B&B! Great value for money and highly recommended.
We were able to contact Tracey easily to access the property and for other queries. She always answered emails promptly.
It was well located for Rutland Water and surrounding towns/villages.
The property was bright and airy, spacious enough for 3 people and well resourced.
beautiful and stunning location on the south shore of Rutland Water. you could get out of the hotel onto the waters edge for a walk, which I did. really friendly staff. Well appointed room. lots of parking. Well signposted from the road. Really peaceful setting.
The Admiral Hornblower on Oakham's main street offers a couple of rooms on the other side of the backyard. Nicely decorated rooms, great breakfast and one of the better options if you want to stay in Oakham centre. The breakfast options were great!
Breakfast was not provided. Was it supposed to have been?
This was not a hotel. It was just "rooms" that were difficult to find. I received no instructions on how to get into the room.
The room was cold with no way of activating the radiator.
Good location, quiet, great breakfast, not in centre of town but close enough to walk to the high street and railway station. Have stayed previously and would stay again in the future if in the area again.
Good sized individual rooms in quirky historic feeling hotel with Attractive modern bar. Ideally located for Oakham’s pubs, restaurants and shops and near to Rutland Water. Good value for money
Large comfortable bed and located centrally in Oakham. With good access to the surrounding area and close to Rutland Water. The assigned parking space at the car park was also very helpful.
Courtyard rooms gave easy access. Stunning views over Rutland Water and very easy walk to the Normanton church (at the side of the lake). Really good value for the location
Only there one night, arriving and leaving while dark so could not see the whole hotel. Arrived too late for evening meal so really only saw my room, which was excellent
For a 3 star hotel we thought it was very nice.
The location was excellent, in Oakham, Rutland, England.
The car parking facilities was excellent with lots of spaces.
beautiful use of original features. very spacious and airy dining area. I like that our room was away from the main hotel so we didn’t get the noise from the pub.
