Quirky and cosy, and the owner was lovely. Very steep staircase, but fine so long as you have no mobility problems

Company info

Hi I’m Mark After travelling the world, I decided to settle down in Suffolk twenty years ago and started my own little business with a beautiful old derelict farm complex, which I converted into six lovely little cottages for people to escape from city life and enjoy the wonderfully rural experience that this area amazingly has, despite it’s close proximity to London. I love what I do and am ‘Hands On’ with welcoming guests to my own six cottages, as well as looking after my Cottage Agency 'The Grove Cottages' that soon developed as other owners came asking me to take on their cottages and give them the same level of personal customer care, attention, and promotion that we are known and appreciated for. I don’t want to be a huge company, I’m very happy to have a small agency where personal involvement is always the priority and where I can pick only places which I love and know inside out to join us. I am always available to answer any questions and above all else I want you to be in a cottage that suits you, so you will become our ambassador. Please do ask me a question about this cottage and I will give you a very honest answer. Best Wishes Mark - The Grove Cottages

Property info

Bags of character in a quirky little bolt hole with a romantic log fire, great walks and a vibrant little Market Town on your doorstep. One Doggie is welcome, but no Babies. The Old Monkey is tiny and very cosy. It has every modern convenience but still retains masses of original charm and character with its ancient wattle and daub walls, a wealth of beams, tiny steep staircase, lovely lime wash painted walls and a cosy open log fire with a comfy sofa to enjoy it from. The main room with its log fire has an antique farmhouse table to enjoy meals in front of the fire. The contemporary Kitchen makes the preparation of meals easy and is complete with a Belfast sink, microwave, washing machine, electric hob and oven. There is a modern small power shower bathroom located on the ground floor and central heating in all rooms. The stairs winding up into the bedroom, give away the age of the building and people with mobility problems or babies should not book this cottage The bedroom has a high arched ceiling displaying the beautiful ancient beams, it has a snuggly double bed, not a king-sized one. 1 Pet is welcome: Banned Dogs: Please also note that if you are considering bringing a dog breed which may be thought of as a danger or a concern to others, then Please check with us first before booking and we will discuss the suitability of our cottage. There is a 20 pound charge for up to 7 nights. Please note that cottage owners cannot accept pets that have not been paid for, so please make sure that you have paid for your pet before arrival. We supply a lovely breakfast basket containing eggs, tomatoes, butter, bread and milk, all local produce if possible - season permitting. The cottage also contains tea, coffee and olive oil, salt and pepper. When you contact us to make Arrival Arrangements you can let us know if you have any dietary requirements to avoid food wastage. There is free on street parking is available outside or opposite in a quiet Cul-de-sac

Neighborhood info

You are on the edge of the small Historic Market Town of Hadleigh, shops start a couple of hundred yards away. There are several pubs and unique little shops and a Co-Op supermarket. Hadleigh has over 200 listed historical buildings in it and the church was painted by John Constable. Just around the corner from the cottage is a footpath taking you along the old railway line which is now a rambling / cycle route out into the countryside. There is a pretty riverside walk round Hadleigh. You are in the pretty river valley that starts in Lavenham which is regarded as England’s Best Preserved Medieval Village and is full of stunning houses and many good pubs and restaurants including the famous Great House and The Swan Hotel. Beautiful little riverside villages lie along this river valley and are wonderful places to explore. Flatford Mill, where Constable painted ‘The Haywain’ is a short drive down the road and where you can hire a rowing boat for a lazy picnic day afloat. The coast starts just 30 minutes away near Ipswich and our favourite places are between 50 – 70 minutes away like; Pin Mill, Nacton, Levington, Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Southwold and Mersey Island.
