Offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside this one & half storey cottage is one of six in a courtyard setting, converted from the original 18th century farm steading, close to the historic village of Thornhill which nestles at the foot of the dramatic Southern Uplands on the banks of the river Nith. It was in this location that Scottish historian, Thomas Carlyle married his sweetheart Jane Welsh in 1826, you can also visit his birthplace in nearby Ecclefechan.

Thornhill is a thriving small, rural village approximately half a mile away with a selection of boutiques, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops, as well as butchers and a bakery whilst there is also a small supermarket for more mundane fare. After a hard day exploring you are spoilt for choice over where to end the day, be it the relaxed setting of the cottage or enjoying the local hospitality in the nearby village. The local area, as with all of Southern Scotland is famous for the scenery and wildlife that can be enjoyed. The cottage makes a central base from which to enjoy the wide-open spaces of the Scottish Hills and the fabulous coast of the Solway Firth, with the chance to see red squirrels, deer, otters and many bird species with winter being a wonderful time to see the amazing numbers of wintering geese on the Solway Firth merse foreshore. Outdoor activities available on the door step are many and varied including walks and cycle routes with tracks for all abilities, golf, fishing and riding.
