In this place so full of history and still renowned tourist destination for the splendid "Riva Bianca" (White Beach) that frames the Castle, the host recovered the southern portion of the house owned by noble Bartolomeo Panizza, dating back to 1600. A small "pied dans l'eau" jewel of peace and quiet, with stunning views : each window overlooks the lake and offers a small painting in every season of the year. The house is full of history..... the foundations are from the Roman era with vaulted ceilings, the upper floors of late medieval construction, the newest part of the house is an extension of the early 1900s. With hidden access through the castle's ladle, the house overlooks its splendor, directly on the south-facing shore, is sun-kissed from sunrise to sunset; the fourteen windows are all lake views. The entire house is subject to the protection of cultural heritage by virtue of the monumental constraint Law of 20 June 1909 Nr 364, as it is part of a medieval castle and protected by the Government Authorities of Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape
My mother's family resides in the Castle of Lierna with certainty since 1600 ... but perhaps even before. Lover of local history, I decided to recover this fantastic south corner of the Castle and offer it to my guests to revive the emotion of an holiday in a charming "pied dans l'eau" unique house, inserted in an historical context, although equipped with all the comforts. My sons Pietro and Anna (both Co-Hosts ) help me to handle the property , welcome the guests and provide them assistance.
We are in Lierna on Lake Como once there was an island in the lake, a natural spur of rock jutting out into the middle of the lake ....not far from the shore... In Roman times he found a natural location a military fortification, for the control of the ancient communication routes that crossed the Alps On the remains of the Roman camp, at the end of the 5th century D.C. Queen Theodelinda built a Lombard fortification, connected to the mainland by means of a drawbridge : the Castle of Lierna. In the following centuries it became the scene of lake battles, clashes for control of water and traffic, in 956 prison of queen Adelaide of Burgundy. Within the walls of the Castle there is an ancient oratory dedicated to Saints Maurice and Lazarus, patrons of two Orders Cavallereschi and still today a meeting place of the 'Templar Order of the Poor Knights of Christ. The old walls and buildings of the Medieval Castle were adapted in the 17th century; they became homes of the local nobility and fishermen and the island was joined to the mainland and turned into a peninsula. Even today the hamlet is called "Castello"
