We are Hans and Marnie van der Velde and are the owners of Veldhorst Apartments. We are born and raised Leiden residents and our accommodation is located in a building that our family has owned for more than 50 years. In our street, the Hugo de Grootstraat, there is peace and quiet, yet the center of Leiden is a stone's throw away. The monumental building (from 1892) was completely renovated in 2022/2023 and we started Veldhorst Apartments in 2024.

Our 2-person Studio (Hendrikus) is located on the first floor, which is beautifully decorated and fully equipped. Our 4-person apartment (Jacobus) with 2 bedrooms, a spacious bathroom, cozy landing and living room including kitchenette is located on the 2nd floor.

Our building is located in one of the most sought-after Leiden neighborhoods “Vreewijk” and dates from the 19th century. It was the first expansion of Leiden beyond the canals and has now been declared a protected cityscape. The diversity in the neighborhood is great, there are almost no identical houses. The different colors, facade bricks, building heights and location on the water give the neighborhood a lot of atmosphere. Vreewijk is a neighborhood that is becoming increasingly dynamic, also due to its location near the center. Veldhorst Apartments are within walking distance of several museums and other characteristic buildings of Leiden. The most famous and beautiful canal in Leiden is right around the corner from us: the Rapenburg. The most stately Leiden buildings are located on this canal. The Academy Building and various other buildings of Leiden University are also located here, as well as the many student houses, the National Museum of Antiquities, the Hortus Botanicus and the Siebold House. The Rapenburg concert is held annually on the water of the Rapenburg. There are of course also many shops in the immediate vicinity. There are many good restaurants and beautiful terraces where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. When the weather is nice, there is a lot of sailing on the canals and the terraces are pleasantly full.
