An interesting place, full of history. I liked the walk by the canal. Lots of cafes and young people having good time. I also visited The Science and Industry Museum and saw Stephenson`s steam locomotive the Rocket. I visited the John Rydlands Library. It was great.
What a great place to go .lots to do and number 1 canal street is great to eat at or just have a drink and night life go to Cruz 101 fri or Saturday is great and finally sackville park Alan sat there with his apple which killed him .
Loved how friendly people was , only downside was I visited the G.A.Y bar with my partner we have been to G.A.Y London many times but the G.A.Y Manchester door staff refused entry as it was a locals only bar which was a bit disappointing but the other bars on canal street where very friendly and welcoming
I don't like Canal street at all, unless your a local they do not like you being there. Also if your in couples they don't like this? Me and my partner went and got turned away everywhere like we were a threat so I've never been since.
Just be careful with what you drink. I asked for vodka twice. Clearly wasn't vodka tasted awful yet my boyfriends was fine. Also explained couldn't have certain drinks to allergies yet still through drinks and didn't listen. Awesome atmosphere, really fun,. Lots of dancing. Just a shame about the being unable to trust the bars. Otherwise it's the best place in Manchester. Reasonable prices, no or cheap entry fee. And everyone was really friendly.
Actually doesn't live up to expectations for me. The door staff are rude and irresponsible and this makes me concerned about safety, it doesnt seem to have evolved much over the last 10 years either to be honest.
The Velvet Hotel is brilliantly located on Canal Street, with excellent links to transport. The room we were given was gorgeous, and the little extras like the dressing gowns and the brilliant electric blinds made the stay even better. The staff were really kind and helpful. It felt really safe during Covid-19, and a lot of thought had clearly been put into the Covid guidelines.
Central location near Canal Street and open bar area downstairs was busy without being crowded. The room was spacious, with a view over the Canal. Comfortable bed, stylish room and everything you would need for a short stay.
Great location, close to city centre and canal street, clean and tidy, comfortable bed. Amenities available reflect price. Good for a couple of nights but wouldn’t really recommend a longer stay.
