Beds were very comfy and staff were friendly. Room was clean and spacious.

Location is good. Room was large and fabulous. Shower was large.

The property is super quirky with so much charm. Lots of parking and beautiful grounds.

It was better than we expected at every turn. Finishing with a perfect breakfast. At the very beginning we were impressed that gates opened to let out car into the car park as we drove up (with a reassuring sign to say guests would have a code to get back out). Inside there were lots of inviting seating areas round every corner. A half done jigsaw puzzle on one table. Friendly staff. Really nice room with a very big bed… and a bottle of mineral water on each side. A very pleasant bar with lots of nice nooks. Good beer. (And I noticed a nice selection of malt whiskies.) When we asked for crisps… a basket was offered with a selection of really good quality crisps. The Crown simply surpassed expectations by small increments at every turn. We had found it by luck when we needed a break for the night on a long car journey on the A1(M). And as we enjoyed our evening we kept commenting how good it was.

The breakfasts were excellent. The staff are fantastic.

Easy check in, nice clean and warm room, and the full english breakfast was really good. the bar and meals were great and all the staff were fantastic, Will be back as soon as we can.

The hotel and location are fantastic, plenty to see and activities to do in the area or at the hotel itself. Breakfast’s were the best we have ever had and we have been travelling internationally for 4 years in is our fourth trip to England.

The location can’t be beat - you walk out the front gate and you’re at the cathedral. Breakfast was PHENOMENAL. All the staff were very kind and accommodating. Room was well equipped, relaxing and had lots of nice touches including welcome truffles!

Excellent breakfast. Well positioned for York, Ripon in a peaceful village close to the A1, but not too near to be intrusive.

This is an absolute gem. Stunning property, amazing hospitality and quite possibly the best breakfast we have ever had. We have recommended you left, right and centre. Attend to detail, VERY clean and cosy. Very keen to become a part of the local community and use local suppliers - and this again, is reflected in the quality. Cannot fault (and I own my own travel company - I’ve stayed in A LOT of places)

We had such an amazing stay at The General Tarleton. The whole place strikes that perfect balance between a cosy Yorkshire pub and somewhere really high quality. The rooms were beautifully done, comfortable and stylish and and the attention to detail throughout was excellent. Food was a real highlight as was the outdoor terrace. Dinner in the restaurant was genuinely one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time, absolutely loved the monkfish. Breakfast the next morning was equally brilliant, amazing full English and mushrooms and ricotta on toast. What really made the stay though was the atmosphere and the team. Everyone was warm, relaxed and welcoming, already looking forward to staying again.

I stayed at this hotel during my trip to my friend’s wedding, and I was really happy with it. The hotel is located downtown, just a 10-minute walk from the railway station. The building reminds me of old English traditions. The rooms were very clean and fully equipped. The staff was very kind and attentive. I was satisfied with everything and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Breakfast was not provided but the kitchen facilities were excellent and we made our own breakfast The kitchen was well equipped with all utensils and crockery and included a microwave and a kettle so the facilities were more than adequate. We had a small issue with our shower which was dealt with immediately upon my texting the owner. Thank you for the prompt response

Location was great, had parking at no additional cost, very clean, warm, staff were polite, rooms cleaned daily & fresh towels, tea & coffee topped up. Room spacious, bathroom had a bath & power shower over it. Excellent value

Great breakfast very nice rooms

Lovely building but the room was disappointing, lack of storage for clothes and coats. One very small wardrobe 🤷‍♀️

The property was perfectly located a very short walk to the centre of Harrogate. Parking was available just a few hundred yards away. The house was spotless as was the room which had everything needed for an overnight stay. Fairly priced accommodation and very responsive owners.
