Acropolis Museum

Athens is a city steeped in history, shaped by the people and empires that have called it their home. This relationship to the past can be seen and felt throughout the city, but the true scale and beauty of Greek antiquity is best appreciated at the Acropolis Museum. Standing beside the Parthenon itself, the museum's exhibits span thousands of years and document the story of the people of Athens through war, religion and daily life. From marvellous marbles to stunning statues, there's no better way to feel the true presence of the past.

If you don't have time for both the Acropolis and the Museum...

If you don't have time for both the Acropolis and the Museum, see the Museum. You can see the Acropolis from walking around it and from adjacent hills. Not quite as close, but still good. Lots of what went in the Parthanon and other monuments is collected in the Acropolis Museum for safe keeping.

We've seen many museums and sites already in Greece, so this museum was pretty ordinary really in terms of the items to see. I would only recommend if you were only going to one museum in Greece, otherwise it's underwhelming.

Fabulous, interesting venue.

Fabulous, interesting venue. Go as early as you can in the morning to avoid the tour groups who crowd in front of the exhibits and block your view. So many wonderful and small items on display. Well worth the time spent and a great view of the Acropolis above.

The National Archaeological Museum is a must see for history...

The National Archaeological Museum is a must see for history buffs, with its impressive collection of ancient artifacts. The Acropolis Museum, located right at the foot of the Acropolis, offers a fascinating look at the ancient site’s history, with displays that range from sculptures to everyday objects used by ancient Athenians.

The museum is one of the most interesting on the way objects are displayed. You definitely need a minimum an audio guide which its free on the museum site i think. The view of the acropolis from the museum adds a magic touch. Buy tickets inside the museum

I suggest a visit to the Acropolis Museum before visiting...

I suggest a visit to the Acropolis Museum before visiting the Acropolis. Seeing the sculpture/artwork at eye level gives you a better sense of what was once there to inform your understanding of the structures on the Acropolis. The museum construction above archaeological structures is spectacular, with clear floors and walkways that allow you to see what is below and remind you that the Acropolis was surrounded by dense habitation. Although the exhibits are beautiful, Interpretation of the objects, the underlying structures and the Acropolis is sparse and/or inconsistent. I would have expected to learn more about where the objects were manufactured, by whom, who was living/working in the ruins below the musuem. The museum has a pleasant cafe with spectacular views of the Acropolis from below. It also has a large quiet reading room that offered a much needed respite from the crowds, heat and sensory overload of Athens in July!

The location was excellent. Being right in the centre of Athens made it easy to explore the city on foot. We were within walking distance of the Acropolis Museum, plenty of cafes and restaurants, and several great viewpoints with beautiful views of the Acropolis. It was a perfect base for our stay. The host was also very helpful, providing clear instructions for the apartment and Wi-Fi, and kindly allowing us a later check-out on our final day.

There is an elevator, after about 8 steps at the entrance. Was a good, quiet location, lots of reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Very close to the Acropolis Museum and the Acropoli stop on the red line metro, very convenient, also an elevator from the metro to street level, if you need it. 2 air conditioners in the apartment is great, one in bedroom one in living area. Washing machine much appreciated. Very comfortable apartment.
