Wonderful and surprisingly fun. Walk up as the funicular has a large queue, but only if you don’t mind having a mini heart attack. At the top it’s a village all on its own with lovely restaurants & cafes.
We took the scenic route up the hill opposite the Gellért baths and I didn’t realise how unfit I was, thank god for the constant benches on the way up. Beautiful view points if you follow the love hearts
The spectacular view to the city of Budapest from the Citadella is the best experience . This is a world heritage spot in the city !! During winter time quiet windy , please dress yourself warmly if you planning to visit this time to avoid to be frozen !!!!!
Get the no 27 bus to the top! The walk is really steep and quite long (judging from the faces of the people we passed on the way down!). The Citadella itself was not overly impressive but the views from the top are amazing!
Quite a walk, I only went up to the little cross midway as I was in a rush before going to the airport but the view is nice and it close to the Gélert bath and hotel (you can go in the bath building and see the bath from behind if you go round the hotel)
The outside is impressive but the monument itself is closed to the public. There are no free restrooms in the area and the price to use the toilet is one dollar--highly overpriced compared to everywhere else in Budapest!
The citadella was really cool - prime views and not that far from the center
You can sit on one of the many stationery river boats and enjoy a glass of wine while you take time to talk and look back across at the castle and citadel all it up at night.
