Very relaxing and enjoyable. During the summer months, if the weather is good, it is nice to buy a take away coffee/lunch and bring it over to the green area in the square. There is seating but it is also nice to chill on the grass. The place is buzzing with people of all ages and if you are lucky, many wonderfully talented musicians will be playing/performing in the surrounding area. In the winter and in particular at Christmastime, there is a Christmas market and the place is amazing. Shopping in Galway is the best with a huge variety of shops in the city centre and plenty of shopping centres. The buzz is just amazing. It's a student's and artist's paradise any time of the year.
As stated above about Galway, I loved the way There was so Many stores, Pubs & Restaurants So close together and the food & people working at all the places we went to were friendly & very kind. The Street Musicians were Amazingly Talented And we’re a Joy to behold! Such a Wide Variety too!!! So much to see, Definitely bring a Camera whether you have a cell phone or not. I had problems with my cell phone because of battery & charging issues and my phone looking for Towers that are in Oregon Not Ireland iPhone 7. Just saying I wish I had known that in advance, I asked people about this kind of thing before I left Oregon & people were vague at best and researching that On the Internet didn’t help. Anyway, I would Definitely go back, bring More money to do more & exchange currency at the Dublin Airport in a Much larger quantity to begin with. You don’t know,”In Advance,” how many Tours, and places you will end up visiting, so Plan ahead! I loved staying at the Flannery’s Hotel as the 409 Double Decker Bus picks you up so close to there and your able to get to Eyre Square quickly! My daughter & I Loved that convenience!!! Fantastic! I would & will go back Much better prepared And with My Own Camera that doesn’t need to be constantly charged & connected to Wi-Fi! That way, you don’t miss out on taking All the Wonderful pictures you can possibly take!!! I was So fascinated by it all, that I was torn between taking pictures & experiencing it All! My advice, or “Tip,” go to Galway, to Eyre Square, experience Kennedy Park, The Cliffs Of Moher & Aran Islands near there Doolin and Definitely order the Clam Chowder which is more of a Seafood Chowder delicious & delightfully so!!! This can be found at Fitzpatrick’s Pub in Doolin.
The square is unavoidable as its the central hub for city buses. It is also bordered by the railway station. The park was reworked some years ago and I seem to remember that both the cost and result were controversial. It is now invaded by seagulls that are annoying people eating from the nearby fast food outlets.
Check out the 14 flags flying along one side of the square. They represent the rulers of this area in the Middle Ages. They include Blake, Bodkin, Burke, D’Arcy, Deanne, Fort, French, Joyce, Kirwin, Lynch, Martin, Morris, and Skerrett. My ancestors include the last!
Plenty of pubs, decent music, good selection of restaurant, cafe etc. Buskers are plentiful as are the card sharks who peddle the craft in very jocular way( beware). They will strip you of your euroa as quick as look at you!!
If you arrive via public transportation this is most like the first you will see of Galway. One side of the Square ist hosting the central railway station as well as the central bus station. It is also the starting point of offered walking tours. alongside the square you will find some pubs, restaurants, Hotels and hostels.
The Eyre Square Hotel is a beautiful small hotel in the center of Galway, walkable to all major attractions. Our stay was at the height of the COVID-19 restrictioons with the hotel implementing both social distancing during check-in while yet remaining very friendly and welcoming, increased cleaning and sanitizing was evident throughout the hotel and they made the decision to keep the dining room open for guests for lunch and dinner as the only sir down option for food in the city. The included breakfast was excellent.
The comfortable rooms, beds, the fantastic breakfast, equally tasty and good value dinner menu which makes the Fork restaurant a dinner destination among all the great eateries of Galway city, the super friendly staff - 100 % obliging thinking especially of Iryna, Dennis, Janis, Declan, Emmet and all their colleagues .... there is a local bus the 407 that easily links the hotel with Eyre Square - I'm very happy with my visit :)
Easy to reach by car in busy busy Galway Ireland -- there is a public bus stop that can take you into the favored tourist quadrant if you like although a taxi was only $8 and well worth it since it is nearly impossible to drive or park near the Quay, Eyre Square or Latin Quarter...the hotel was accommodating, the rooms were so well maintained and the beds extra comfy. We felt we had the luck of the Irish with us on this booking.
Check-in was simple and the staff at the hotel where you collect the keys were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was spacious, clean, and had a gorgeous view. The apartment is located right next to Eyre Square, making it within walking distance of everything in the city centre. Will 100% be staying here again the next time I visit Galway.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they offered way more amenities and convenience items than I have seen at other hostels I've stayed at. It was also in an incredible location in Galway, being right next to Eyre square and just a very short walk to the bus station.
It was cleaner than most hotels/airBnB’s I’ve stayed in and the breakfast in the morning was great!! Right across from Eyre Square and the bus station so getting around Galway was so easy! Friendly staff and secure rooms!
The hotel is in a good location - only 15-20 mins walk from Eyre Square. The staff were friendly. The room was warm, the bed was comfy enough and in general things were quiet enough. Free parking is great too for Galway!
Excellent hotel just steps from Eyre Square and the main Train and Bus station in Galway. Hotel facilities are very nice and clean and is close to EVERYTHING in Galway.
The hotel is located in the Galway city centre near Eyre Square. The room was clean and the staff was quite friendly.
