The facility was run by a nice couple and a helper, food was fantastic. The couple works 12 hours a day serving seven rooms on site Onsen, Onsen was excellent too, very clean. The whole place was recently renovated, the owner cooked all the food for us for dinner and breakfast, all exceptional Japanese food thank you.

Minshuku Sumiya provides a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 7.7 miles of Hosshinmon Oji Shrine and 12 miles of Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art.

We stayed here on our first night of the Kumano Kodo trail. The house is basic but nice and clean, the rooms are actually pretty big and the futon beds are comfortable. Yes, the shower/ bathroom facilities could use some work but they were clean and there was enough facilities across 2 floors for everyone staying there. What was outstanding though was Kohei’s attention & support: we asked for bikes and we were able to use his, he has bathrobes & slippers available to go use the natural river onsen, and the meals were delicious(dinner, breakfast and the lunch box!). He also helped us figure out luggage transport and the bus schedule. There was also an AC in the room which was a nice add-on and a massage chair in the lobby.

Incredibly kind, helpful staff. They spoke English well and took the time to help me figure out bus schedules. Beautiful view right outside :)

A modest setting in a country side but clean and included everything you need. And the boxed dinner prepared by the hostess was so delicious, which we had eat everything!
