The center itself is about what you would expect.

The center itself is about what you would expect. Informational signs and displays, a small restaurant and a small shop selling tourist trap stuff. It is a little larger than I expected. We went in July- it was 59 degrees and windy. I had left 104 in Central Texas the day before so even though I did bring a sweatshirt I felt as if I was risking frostbite. It was nice to go inside and warm up. The only real negative has nothing to do with the center itself. There is no air up there. We hung out taking in the INCREDIBLE views but eventually decided to descend after about 30 minutes. Although we were both healthy and fairly fit, as we both started to get headaches and just feel generally weak with a tinge of nausea. We were walking all over the place looking at the views from different locations, probably should have done a little less exertion given the lack of oxygen. Definitely go, you won't regret or forget it. The journey up and down is half the fun. Just know that you can't take breatihng for granted.

    There is construction all around.

There is construction all around. Center itself is nice with a cafe, restrooms, and gift shop that includes jackets for certain lowlanders (ahem) who underdressed for the mountain peak conditions. This time of year is very tenuous due to weather. It would really benefit from an automated website that showed current + short-term forecast weather and road conditions. I found the recorded weather wasn't updated until late in the morning. I am glad I took the COG Rail to the top of Pike's Peak. I was going to drive it the day before, but this late in the season, it's touch-and-go. The COG was a nice way up but only left about 40 minutes to explore the peak before having to go down. (A workaround to this would be booking two one-way trips.) On the day I went, I was underdressed for the high wind and cold, so 40 minutes was *plenty*. The COG folks did an excellent job with communication, including potentially having to abbreviate the trek up due to winds.

    Drive up!

Drive up! if you have a care there, Hiking is 13 miles... so don't attempt unless you can handle it. You can ride back down if you ask someone,, but don;t chance it, There is a four mile hike from the parking lot to summit if you drive then hike. The air is thin, and dry ,, bring an drink lots of water.. Decent sandwiches at the top in the restraunt

Could not drive all the way to the top due to construction a. Too Is really messy right now due to construction. They did have a shuttle to carry you to the top but so much construction it is hard to know where to go so you could look out and over the edge.

We enjoyed a quick evening meal before attending a performance at Pikes Peak Center. The venue is only a block away and we might have walked if it had not been raining. We enjoyed having covered free parking under the hotel.

The room and hotel was clean. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. The hot tub was very nice. Half mile easy walk to the Pikes Peak Center. We chose this hotel as special treat for our autistic son and it was close to the Pikes Peak Center. We would have had a much nicer trip staying farther away and driving to the venue.
