We had a wonderful stay at this property! It was beautifully appointed with everything we could possibly need, and the thoughtful touches—like the delicious food and snacks—were such a treat. The location was perfect, making it easy to get around and enjoy the area. Everything was spotless, and the home was so comfortable that we felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend and would love to return!

The place was clean and comfortable, and overall I had a decent stay. There’s no check-in counter, but the self check-in process was smooth thanks to the clear instructions provided. It’s about a 25-minute walk from the bus terminal, and while I believe there’s a shuttle service available, I didn’t use it.

It is a truly amazing and authentic place to stay. The entire space breathes history and immerses you in a historic rural environment. The delicious breakfast and was simple yet sophisticated. My first time stayed at a Gassho housing B&B. But the hospitality the owners provided to me was exact level I would expect at any other Japanese B&B. Gokayama Ainokura is much quieter than Shirakara-go, where was over-crowded by foreign visitors around the world in addition to domestic tourists.

At Akaokan, guests can relax in the spacious public hot-spring baths and visit the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located a 20-minute drive away.

The level of thoughtfulness was incredible. Every detail of our included delicious and beautiful multi course dinner and breakfast was exceptional. It was all made from local ingredients, like freshly caught rainbow trouble and fiddlehead ferns. Our hosts even had drawings and English translations to explain what they served us. The location was across from the largest gassho home. I wish we had more time and had rented a car to see the other gassho homes in the area.
