So lush and green - a large space full of grass, trees, birds chirping. Many caravans are parked in the compound. There are also regular parking spots for the guests of the hotel or tree houses. We took a hotel room. It is not large, but clean, and has the basic facilities. An advantage is that the water in the resort are drinkable. The price is affordable, although breakfast is not included. However, there is an excellent restaurant in the resort; it is open from morning till late evening and has a variety of food - fresh, tasty and for low prices and very good service. There is also a minimarket and laundry services inside the resort. Bear in mind, though, that the staff do not freshen up the room or supply clean towels unless you explicitly ask the staff to do it ... Reviews we read of Shkoder said it's a university town with lots of biking. Not sure what those reviewers were writing about, but there weren't many bike friendly areas and the town was not as vibrant as we expected. We did spend some time in the Shiroka area on the lake a 10 minute or so drive from Shkoder and that was very nice - good restaurants and lake activities. Theth is breathtaking!
Theth is breathtaking! At times I compared it to Switzerland. Other times to Nepal. The mountains are dramatic and the village, although bursting and bustling with tourists and hotels and restaurants - still maintains an authentic feel. The road to Theth is quite an experience with many switchbacks up and down and with traffic coming at you- you need a stomach of iron, but it’s so worth it to arrive on this gem of a valley. The road in the village is not paved so drive slowly. We had a fantastic dinner at villa Gjecaj restaurant- beautiful setting, peaceful and amazing food. Lots of hiking options. The hotel is close to the beach, which was great. The pool was small but clean, and my son really enjoyed it. Breakfast was OK, and there are small shops nearby, along with parking available. I would have rated this 5 stars if it weren't for one issue: the cooking utensils. Shkoder is a lovely city with great views, food and nice accommodation facilities. It's a safe place for families and youths with lots of activities around. Theth is a little town surrounded by beautiful mountains. It has a few good restaurants, several good hiking options, things of historic and cultural interest and good swimming spots. Theth is a small village, and during our visit, many buildings had been demolished, which took away some of its charm. It felt less picturesque than expected. The hike between Theth and Valbona is beautiful but requires quite a bit of logistics.
