Lewtrenchard is set in beautiful, tranquil grounds. The interior is full of character and charm-very much an English manor. The bedding was crisp and the bed comfortable, the bathroom was beautifully decorated, and the room very clean and well appointed. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was exceptional-flavours were sophisticated and balanced, with high quality produce showcased. Each dish was a work of art.

Very unique place with so much attention to detail, fantastic food in the pub for breakfast and dinner. Great location in the beautiful Totnes. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The place is a real gem - the room was super comfy and particularly well equipped while being both modern and well designed. The lounge and restaurant were the same - very comfy, using the old style of the building while providing some modern qirks. Ilfracombe is like a curate's egg - good in parts.

Ilfracombe is like a curate's egg - good in parts. As with so many English seaside resorts, there are signs of decay amongst many of the older buildings and it is clear that the population rises in holiday season due to casual staff working in hospitality of various sorts. It is a great shame that public transport links - particular the railway - have been lost to the town, for this would bring in a lot more trade and tourists. Barnstaple feels a long way away. Some of the views above and around the harbour are spectacular. The long-term loan of Damien Hirst's 'Verity', on display at the outer end of the harbour, is not to everyone's taste but is certainly eye-catching. It is a shame that more cannot be made culturally from his and other artist's links to the town. The Landmark Theatre and the Museum are fine institutions that deserve better support. Several churches exist and give a friendly welcome, including 'Pip and Jim's' in the centre of town. The 'George and Dragon' in Fore Street has live music weekly and provides good food, there is a tapas bar nearby and The Lime Kiln at the Watersports Centre overlooking the harbour is a nice venue for evening drinks and eating. Lundy Island boats leave from the harbour (to a timetable) and there are plenty of boat trips to choose from. The South-West Coast Path passes right through the middle of town too. In summary, Ilfracombe is well-worth a visit!

Also enjoyed walking around the garden’s alongside the river and eating out etc. Despite many of our high street undergoing dramatic changes, Totnes remains top quality as it’s always been!
