This hotel was exceptional in everyway. Quiet, large room, comfortable king sized bed and the sound of the stream through the windows was so tranquil. Staff so friendly and helpful. From the beautiful cooked breakfast to the scones and clotted cream every afternoon it just felt like home. Lots of walks from the beautiful Grasmere village. Jump on the bus if you wish to many places. Good restaurants nearby to walk to and tea rooms at the door. Just so relaxing this place. Lots of parking. Great outdoor and indoor space to relax with complimentary beverages. We will be back one day.

Driving up to the hotel to check in just after sunset was magical. Our entire family of 9 spontaneously said “wow” in unison. The fairy lights, immaculate gardens and fabulous entrance was just the beginning. Seriously, if we could score 15 out of 10 we would. Every little detail was perfect from beautifully styled decor, elegant, spacious rooms and outstanding service. And the Furness Abbey ruins were only a 10minute walk through the property gardens. We were on a road trip to see castles and historical sites so this really took the whole experience to the next level. I can’t imagine we’ll be able to top this stay again in our travels.

Immaculate and everything is considered. Some features were absolutely unprecedented like having takeaway cups for coffee so you can take a morning coffee with you. Staff friendly and the view from the breakfast room is truly stunning. All the facilities were in great condition and the room beautifully decorated.

FAQs about hotels in Lake District

Poetic Artistry at its Best

The inspiration behind many a poet, the serene Lake District has majestic peaks and glorious lakes that form the UK’s largest and most visited national park.

A particular favourite of Wordsworth, Windermere is England’s longest lake and her waters are still plied by historic boats. With a range of luxury Lake District hotels and a Beatrix Potter Museum, the town is connected by cable-operated car ferry to a spot close to Near Sawrey where Miss Potter once lived. Near the lake’s northern tip is popular Ambleside, home of the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.

A road goes north from here past picturesque Grasmere and Thirlmere lake to Keswick. Set by Derwent Water, this pretty town is overlooked by Skiddaw, while Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain – is to its south-west. Bassenthwaite lake is north-west, and Glenridding to the east is on the shores of the popular sailing spot of Ullswater, watched over by Helvellyn.

In the Southern Lakes, Coniston is a small village by a lake offering watersports. South-west is the port town of Barrow-in-Furness, and also by the sea is Grange-over-Sands with its long promenade. Kendal is known for its tasty mint cake and has a museum of Lakeland life, as well as a good range of Lake District hotels with pools on Booking.com.

Loved the surrounding area (with the alpacas). The room & bed were both super comfortable to stay in. Really enjoyed all the little touches in the decor and the services provided (cake in the afternoon, breakfast was amazing, great recommendations of nearby restaurant, the mini bar had tons of options). Staff very friendly and welcoming. Very close to the deepest lake in England - would definitely come back and stay here!

Super town, lovely walking area, nice market 2 days a week. Love the brewery tap - Fox tap, especially the bao buns. The Theatre on the Lake show was brilliant this year. Best fish and chips from Kingfishers. Good meals at the Fell Pack and Casa Bella. We enjoy Booths - don't have that supermarket down south!

Windermere was such a beautiful trip for our 3rd wedding anniversary. Fun hikes, gorgeous views of the lake, yummy food everywhere! Homeground coffee was so amazing! Their house blend was delcious! Cafe Italia was a really nice place! Quite pricey but the food was delicious. As a muslim you do have to hunt a little around there but there are halal options in and around windermere like in bowness. The 599 bus is such a convenient way to get around. It comes within 20 minutes of the last one. The boat ride from Ambleside waterfront was so amazing and highly recommended for couples and families!

I love the location; the ferry ride up to Ambleside was beautiful. The staff on the ferry were friendly and helpful. The walk to Grasmere was easy, plenty to see along the way. Food was available in Grasmere; we ate at a cafe on the main street where they also had a most wonderful apple and cinnamon hot juice, which I hope to return to and have more. We caught a coach back from Grasmere which was also easy to do. Windermere and Bowness are lovely place to visit, I cannot believe how many people were there visiting....All the bars/restaurant we visited where excellent, the food in easy squeezy was superb, with playing a rocking little singer guitarist. Overall, we had a cracking good time
