I spent one night at The Stykkishólmur Inn and had a great experience. The town itself is beautiful — small but with every amenity and service you might need. The hotel is very charming, and my room was spacious and well-equipped (towels and other essentials were provided). Breakfast was really good — a compact but complete buffet, not over the top, but totally satisfying. The staff member I interacted with was extremely kind and welcoming. I also appreciated the practical walk-in process: you receive an entry code by email, so there’s no formal check-in needed. All in all, I would definitely recommend staying here!

Beautiful facilities, many parts looked new. Spectacular location. The staff was great. They asked if we would like to have them knock on our door if auroras were sighted. They did knock on our door, and we saw some beautiful auroras. All the better because the location is isolated with very dark skies.

Exceptional Stay at Holy Ram Farm Hotel – Highly Recommended! We absolutely loved our stay at the Holy Ram Farm Hotel. The rooms were beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Watching the horses from our window was a real highlight – such a relaxing and memorable experience. Check-in was seamless with clear instructions, and we were warmly greeted by the hosts. They were incredibly helpful and always just a phone call away whenever we needed anything. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Would definitely love to come back soon. Highly recommended!

The interior of the hotel was extremely clean and tidy. The staff were so nice and helpful- my friends and I had instant noodles and even though the kitchen was already closed, they were still kind enough to offer to heat up our food and provide some hot water. The rooms were nice and clean and lots of space. Right outside our window was the Kirkjufell mountain too, which was a nice bonus :)

The parking by the fall is expensive at no reason.

The parking by the fall is expensive at no reason. It offers no services, like toilets. If the weather is ok and you like walking, there is a free spot closer to the city, 1mile or 1500m, with a trail to the fall. The fall and the mountain together in a pic are the postcard you imagined.

The hike to the island is very nice, we did it at 11pm after our dinner. You have to visit the church. We loved this village and his traditional houses. We eat very well at Sjávarpakkhúsið restaurant.

    Beautiful, remote yet friendly place.

Beautiful, remote yet friendly place. Remarkably helpful tourist centre and well maintained roads and buildings despite remoteness. You need a car to fully experience the place. Come with your food for the stay as no shops in town. Hellesandur and surrounding villages are beautiful. Recommend visiting the spa in olafsvik

Hellnar is the perfect location, close to all the major attractions on the peninsula and an ideal place to spend the night while soaking in the beauty of the landscape. There’s a charming little café just a few minutes from the Peninsula Suites that serves the best waffles with jam and whipped cream, an Icelandic classic. The views are truly out of this world, we’ve never seen anything like it. Cliffs, ocean, glacier, and moss all come together in the most breathtaking way. It’s an absolute must on your trip!

The real "secret" (not so secret) highlight of this area is not the church itself but the walks you can do after it towards the dunes and the beach. Just walk a few minutes then turn and look back. you will see the church against a majestic backdrop of mountains, skies and sea.

I had an absolutely amazing stay at Hotel Langaholt — everything about it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and down to earth. They made me feel so welcome and even offered me a complimentary upgrade to a newer, more comfortable room. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and had the most breathtaking view of both the glaciers and the beach. The hotel has a lovely, charming atmosphere and is wonderfully peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax. Dinner was a real highlight — the seafood was freshly caught in the area and tasted incredible. Breakfast was just as impressive, with a great selection to start the day right. One of my favorite moments was being able to take a short walk down to the beach after dinner. It was the perfect way to unwind — surrounded by nature, with the sound of the waves and the open Icelandic landscape all around. What really stood out to me, though, was the kindness and flexibility of the staff. They even allowed me a late checkout so I didn’t have to rush in the morning. Every little detail was handled with such care, and the genuine hospitality made all the difference. I can’t recommend Hotel Langaholt enough. It’s a special place that captures the beauty and warmth of Iceland in every way. I will absolutely be back and I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.

Slightly quirky, remote town, with an interesting harbour. A few good places to eat/drink, and plenty to see and do around the surrounding peninsula - national park, hiking volcanoes, whale-watching, and even trying fermented shark. Pretty, colourful houses in town make it a relaxing place to stay too.

Small, quiet Icelandic town but with enough facilities to support a vacation stay. Plan to get all your supplies by 18:00 as stores close then. Location is central to all sites on the peninsula. Not many restaurants in Olafsvik and those open were closed or on limited hours in the off season (late September) but there are some in nearby towns that were open.
