The facilities and the food make this a truly premier hotel, even though the lobby is so small. Our room is huge by Japanese standards, and the separate shower and toilet set-up is convenient when in a rush. However, we never got to use the shower because we made good use of the exceptional onsen. We loved loved loved the big onsen, with a sauna, a hot jacuzzi, a mist shower, a cold plunge, and the beautiful rooftop onsen. A lot of reviews mention the cold stairway when going up 3 flights to the rooftop onsen - this is true, but to combat this we soaked in the indoor onsen first to get warm before going up to the rooftop. Problem solved! And the breakfast, what can I say, but this is the best breakfast buffet I've ever had in the 27 years I've been travelling all over Japan! There's so much food to choose from, showcasing Hokkaido regional cuisine, and they are all premium quality, and cooked well and deliciously! What's more, staff collect the trays and utensils instead of you cleaning after yourself. Such appreciated service. Highly recommended to included the breakfast when booking, it's 20/10! I really am so glad I booked this hotel despite the negative reviews on the smell of tobacco smoke in the lobby, it really is just a very small inconvenience for such good onsen, great room, and superlative food! I have a very sensitive nose to smoke, but the lobby did not bother me that much at all. Good location, too, the famous Ramen Shingen is just 100m away, and we walked to Odori Park and Tanukikoji, where the lights and lots of eating places are. Lots of entertainment options all around, especially cheap karaoke.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Manseikaku, our room was very nice + spacious but what we loved the most was the lake view from our window all the way To Mt.Yotei and the nightly fireworks. The Hugh buffet breakfast spread was fantastic and the onsen was very nice, we made use of the foot bath in the front garden after walking all day which was relaxing. Staff were very friendly and speak English very well.

If you're into shopping and eating, there are a lot of stores and restaurants. Other than that there wasn't a whole lot to see for us. The canal and warehouse district seems a bit overrated and too hyped up for us. We were there one afternoon and evening and that was enough for us. In all fairness, we didn't do a lot of research beforehand, in terms of things to do and places to visit, since we had only limited time. Unfortunately, we missed the Otaru Denuki-koji area, which has a lot of cute, small restaurants.

The view of Lake Toya was absolutely beautiful. There is a long lakeside promenade behind the hotel, which is perfect for a relaxing walk while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and fresh air. If you have enough time, you can also take a sightseeing cruise around the lake. I would also recommend taking the Usuzan Ropeway, where you can enjoy another spectacular panoramic view of Lake Toya from above.

Really convenient for everything from getting there, to getting around - to most importantly getting on the slopes. Was my second year here - and I enjoyed this year just as much as last: great ski-ing, great food - and great people all over - both Japanese and International: I think it's the good vibe that puts people in the right mood. Loved every moment.

Very good stay as staff members were attentive and caring.

Very good stay as staff members were attentive and caring. They remember client preferences and nothing seemed too much trouble. Rooms were very clean and tidy. We would recommend this ryokan to many. The only drawback was that dinner portions were very small and we are used to ryokans serving an abundant meal in the evening. Breakfast was OK but not outstanding. So, the point of focus is on food. Service was brilliant. Every single staff member we came across did really well, were friendly and very, very polite.

Muroran has suffered as its industrial base has faded, but if you enjoy geology, rock formations and walking, ignore all that because the coastal areas are worth a looksee. Itanki Beach is a fantastic walk beneath large cliffs - try to time your visit for low tide, which will enable you to walk to the sea caves that are inaccessible at high tide. (WEAR WALKING SHOES OR SNEAKERS and not sandals, as you have to walk atop some pretty rocky sections.) Other areas for short walks and viewing are near Tokkarisho Observatory and the Cape Chikyu lighthouse, the Cape Chikyu Green Walking Trail, and Charatsunai and Horaimon. If you are hungry, consider Yakitori Ippei Nakajima, famous for its skewers of grilled pork and retro interior. A bit smoky at times but memorable.

Niseko is a ski town - expensive and flashy. Iroha was excellent as far as a hot-spring resort goes. I didn't know that the 10-course meal was included in the price, and I was super happy to have everything taken care of. If you're skiing Niseko, this is a great spot because it's right next to the Annapuri lift, and the onsen is open almost 24/7, huge bonus for after a ski day.
