This hotel was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful, and always welcoming. Most spoke pretty good English and would be willing to take time to work it out if they didn’t understand. Rooms were very clean and everything you need is there. The breakfast was also good with lots of variety

Small city with plenty of foods and places to visit.

Small city with plenty of foods and places to visit. They were variety of foods e.g. sushi, sasimi, curry soup, and wagyu (which is excellence). The transportation is easy and comfortable. The Otaru city is fantastic, it only half an hour from Sapporo and many cultural and scenery places. The restaurant and traditional merchant houses were fantastic.

Otaru is a great spot for skiers with several resorts close by. An interesting and picturesque city with sea and mountains and good shopping. Ate in some little one-table restaurants in food alleys, a most interesting experience and great food. Also went to Pepe's restaurant, worth booking!

The area is beautiful with breathtaking views of Mount Yusei and Nakajima Island. The Lake Toya Nonokase Resort was superb in so many ways: facilities, room size, views, buffet restaurant quality and staff friendliness and helpfulness.

Enjoyed the numerous onsen pools especially the open-air onsen pools. Buffet was good but would be better to extend the breakfast hours to later time at around 10am to 11am as when on holiday, we tend to sleep late and get up a bit later. Overall, good experience, will return again!

Very good stay as staff members were attentive and caring. They remember client preferences and nothing seemed too much trouble. Rooms were very clean and tidy. We would recommend this ryokan to many. The only drawback was that dinner portions were very small and we are used to ryokans serving an abundant meal in the evening. Breakfast was OK but not outstanding. So, the point of focus is on food. Service was brilliant. Every single staff member we came across did really well, were friendly and very, very polite.

I find most customers are local people.

I find most customers are local people. The environment is quiet. While I drive around the area, I don't see many cars and people. Most shop close around 7 or 8pm. So it is advisable to have dinner before 7pm.

Lake Utonai is worth a quick stop in any season.

Lake Utonai is worth a quick stop in any season. I enjoyed meals at Amiga-Amigas and Toncini’s; both nice Italian restaurants. Upopoy Ainu Museum is excellent. Tomakomai is not a major tourist spot but it is a pleasant place to spend a day or two.

Really convenient for everything from getting there, to...

Really convenient for everything from getting there, to getting around - to most importantly getting on the slopes. Was my second year here - and I enjoyed this year just as much as last: great ski-ing, great food - and great people all over - both Japanese and International: I think it's the good vibe that puts people in the right mood. Loved every moment.

Niseko is a ski town - expensive and flashy.

Niseko is a ski town - expensive and flashy. Iroha was excellent as far as a hot-spring resort goes. I didn't know that the 10-course meal was included in the price, and I was super happy to have everything taken care of. If you're skiing Niseko, this is a great spot because it's right next to the Annapuri lift, and the onsen is open almost 24/7, huge bonus for after a ski day.
