Room was immaculate, recent construction, top-quality bathroom, washer, stove, really everything you could ask for. Plus a beach just steps outside the back door. Check-in was automated but went smoothly using the QR code I received via email.

Very efficient and high-tech capsule dorm room with many bunk beds. I thought it would be hard to sleep since dozens of people share the space but not at all! It was absolutely quiet at night. We enjoyed our one-night stay a lot! Free parking, very close and walking distance to the Kotohiragu area. The room itself was very spacious for 2 people. The onsen was also very nice, there were multiple hot tubs (including jet/jacuzzi ones) indoors and outdoors, and they switch the onsen between male and female overnight. There's also restaurants within the hotel itself. The deco of the hotel along the main walkway and the reception was quite traditional and was nice to appreciate.

Hotel is close to the theme park as it is the only hotel associated with the theme park. BUT the hotel and theme park is quite far from the train station. There is a free bus shuttle but runs infrequently. We ended up taking taxis to the facility . The hotel is huge and it had lots of things that could accommodate the large crowd: Pool and game rooms for children, large onsen baths, large self serve restaurant, and a big store for shopping.

Amazing view onsen, world-class “omotenashi” service, spectacular food (morning & dinner buffet is amazing-strongly recommend half-boarding options since there’s really no good restaurants around and cheaper to book it online than adding it at the hotel), free drink (coffee & tea)and free shuttle bus service from every port (reservation needed by a day before)

It’s amazing. The owner was so kind and let us stay in 2 separate rooms , each room is equipped with everything, including a big fridge, oven, kettle and microwave, and room is so spacious with 2 beds each! We were amazed with kindness and hospitality of the owner, and the cleanliness of the house. It’s worth of money! 200% recommend!

Excellent hotel! Everything was perfect. Nice room, good size, extremely clean. Stuff is outstanding, helping with everything you need. Also a bonus is the bus limousine for the airport just in front of the hotel, with a decent price (1,000 yn) and a very good schedule. The breakfast has very high quality food.

It's not very easy getting to the island.

It's not very easy getting to the island. From Kyoto we took a shinkansen, another train, a bus, and a ferry. Transportation on the island itself is quite limited, and riding the small bus with luggage is a hassle. Most of the museums are ok, though the vaunted architecture left me cold -- many made of what appears to be precast concrete blocks with "bullet holes" that are neither attractive nor functional. The New Museum of Art had a couple of displays that made the trip worthwhile for me, so try not to miss it. Overall a 7/10 experience.

Transport wasn't ideal at this time of year but if you timed the buses right you could see a lot of Shodoshima island in a few days. It was great being surrounded by olive and orange groves. It had a very Mediterranean feel to it. From my resort I only had to cross the road to Olive Park and it's many attractions. A lovely coffee shop, aptly called Dilly Dally, was only a few doors away. I visited the site of the movie "24 eyes", Angel Road, Olive Park and strolled along various beaches. A lovely place to wind down after Tokyo. I mainly cooked for myself but found a coffee shop that did lovely gluten free muffins near Angel Road.

Unwelcoming, Bare House

Unwelcoming, Bare House We informed the host that we would arrive between 4 and 5 p.m. When we arrived, no one was there to welcome us, and we hadn’t received the access code or even the house number. We tried to contact the host but couldn’t reach him. After waiting for 30 minutes in the parking lot, we started knocking on doors in the surrounding houses. Eventually, we found a small cottage where a staff member was present, and only at 5 p.m. did we finally receive an email with the access code. The house itself felt cold and uninviting, with cheap and uncomfortable furniture. There was no iron or proper kitchen knives, no instructions for the washing machine, and several other missing amenities. The apartment was also not clean upon arrival. I understand that we need to adapt to Japanese culture, but I also expect that a host who aims to attract international travelers respects the needs and expectations of those travelers. This host advertises on an international booking platform to attract tourists, but clearly does not understand the true meaning of hospitality. Although the host responded quickly to our complaints, our overall experience here was disappointing.

The island has some of the best art museums I've visited, not in the amount of art pieces, but the flow, quality and architectural side of them. It is very much needed to book everything in advance, especially the more popular museums and electric bicycles, it is most definitely worth to move around the island like that.
