Casa Azabache is located in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, a 17-minute walk from San Cristobal Cathedral, and provides free WiFi. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. Because of the wonderful staff, I stayed at Casa Azabache on two occasions during my visit to Chiapas. The location is great. The place is warm and welcoming. Casa Azabache is not a fancy hotel with TV’s, room service and a big lobby. If that’s what you’re looking for then it may not be the place for you; nonetheless, it was charming and perfect for us. The hotel offers tour packages to simplify the traveling experience. The tour company that the hotel contracts with is excellent. The company is super reliable and better than other companies. I went on several tour packages. On every occasion where applicable, through the hotels tour services, I was put in a better van, given food or better food, and better sleeping accommodations than other tour agencies.

We could even hear sometimes howler monkeys from the property :-) The infinity pool is using a natural filter, that is really great, the water was not full of chemicals.

Campamento Rio Lacanja is located in Lacanjá, 9 miles from Bonampak. Certain accommodations at the property include a terrace with a mountain view. The location is excellent, good quality rooms in the middle of the Jungle la Candona, the family who owns this place is extremely friendly and are always willing to help you and to make your accomodation as good as possible. PS. The rooms by the river are the best ones, since you wake up with the river sounds (it's like paradise) the only disadvantage is that you get to share the toiletts, which are in EXCELLENT conditions.

Tuxtla Gutierrez is the capital of the Mexican State of Chiapas and the location of the state's only major airport. Unless there is a specific reason to go there (I had one), it is no place for the casual tourist.
Great little gem. Really quaint. Good food on the square at sabores San jacinto. World class boat trip to Canon Sumidero. Recommend an overnight here in chiapas de corzo.
Not a very interesting place, with no interesting architecture anywhere, just a lot of ugly concrete buildings. The big market that I can always count on to be interesting was just so-so. I was surprised at how little I found for sale anywhere from the state Chiapas given the wealth of art and handicrafts in that state. I go to that city only to go to the airport to go somewhere else.
traveling solo I took the OCC bus, a long (7hrs) journey which allows you to see the back roads/country of Chiapas, its pueblos and people. The "Ruta Maya' shows of the rugged, wild countryside and the simple life of the Indios.
Cultural and cozy city. Weather is great, cool at nights and sunny during the day. You can find great international restaurants and of course traditional regional food. Trendy and classical restaurants with a great variety of spirits and wines. Museums , churches, markets, and the best is the people and the respect for each other. The travel agency we used Explorando Chiapas were fabulous in organizing the tours around the waterfalls, jungle, lakes, pyramids, etc. but you really need a couple of days in San Cristobal by it self to discover all the beautiful places .
It is the entry point to know Chiapas. There is not much to see other than the "El sumidero", but it is the best connected city in Chiapas, so, use it as your entry point then move to Comitan!
Strongly recommended destination, loved the town and the food is a plus, you must eat in town at TACOLETO tacos, and COCOLICHE world food, at the towns market(MERCADO) you have to buy chesse queso Chiapas or Ocosingo or Doble Crema, all three are the same, and handmade tortillas, all sorts of different foods and best of all, mostly everything is organic and cheap.
Tuxtla is an amazing place but Chiapas has tons of nature sites that you will not want to miss. Comitan de Dominguez has several sites that will fulfill any nature enthusiast's heart within 20-30 min driving distance
We liked that the city was walkable. We found many parks and museums to pass the time when we weren't on a tour. Tours are many. We went to Palenque, Aguas Azules, Chiflon, Lagos de Montebello, the Canyon outside of Chiapa del Corzo, a local ecological park and a short trip to San Juan Chamula. All trips are interesting and pretty. Chiapas has many indigenous people that wear their traditional clothes. The food is very good. When you tire of Mexican, there are Korean, Thai, Lebanese, Spanish and Argentinian ones you can try. Oh, and the coffee and chocolate grow in the state and are so good. Furthermore, if you like textiles, there is so much here to look at: rustic, elegant and everything in between.
I enjoyed this hotel so much that I extended my stay here from three days to 10 days. Rather than getting an AirBnB or finding another hotel, I enjoyed this place so much that I chose to stay longer. The wifi is strong and fast, the bed was very comfortable, the room was very clean, and everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly, kind, and helpful. It was nice having an OXXO and a pharmacy next door. The food is very good and I especially liked the Chiapas Breakfast platter and the club sandwich at lunchtime.
The staff went above and beyond. They ordered a driver for us to take us to the Lagunas de Montebello. The owner himself came out and greeted us and introduced us to the driver. On top of that the wonderful ladies and gentleman at the front desk helped us write an itinerary on what to see at the Lagunas, where to go to rent the best kayaks and where to go to take the best pictures. We will ALWAYS be staying here when we come back to Comiton, it is our favorite hotel whenever we come for a visit to Chiapas.
This hotel, although a short cab ride from the center, is really an oasis from the craziness that is downtown Palenque. The property is an eco/bio marvel and is extremely clean, well lit and well maintained. Beautiful pool and the room air conditioning will keep you cold in the Chiapas heat! Most importantly, there is a vigilant security guard at the roped access monitoring all activity serving as incoming and outgoing gatekeeper. I recommend this hotel over ANY in city center Palenque!
Peaceful and beautiful jungle retreat. Extremely warm welcome. The restaurant is excellent: we had all our meals on site. Spacious rooms spotless and stylishly decorated with upscale materials. Wonderful shower. Beautiful grounds well maintained with great birding opportunities. Organized trip to Yakchilan. Best place to stay in Chiapas !
Since the hotel was not crowded, they comped us to larger rooms, though we saw both regular and large rooms. They are all gorgeous, each decorated with crafts and textiles from a particular area of Chiapas. The larger rooms have a sleeping area for kids. The staff could not have been more attentive. Breakfast was excellent.
Even communication in my little spanish was good enough, the staff put efforts in to understand and help me. There are collectivo busses around the corner to the town chiapas el corzo, here are boats to the canyon. Great for a day trip. Room super clean inclusive cleaning service. 24 hr front desk, wonderful!
Good location. The queen bed is very comfortable. The room is large, bright, and clean. Very good shower with plenty of hot water and great water pressure -- both of which can be hard to come by in Chiapas. (And which admittedly may be a result of the place being pretty much empty while I was there.)
Wonderful Small apt kitchen living area, upstairs bedroom. 2 bathrooms. About .6 mi or 1km walk to several tourist areas. Nice breakfast included. Taxis in town only two dollars, forty pesos. My favorite town/city and favorite state chiapas! Understand many people selling trying to make a living.
Our suite was well appointed with a very comfortable bed, functional kitchen, balcony over a beautiful courtyard with a pear tree. The bedspread was handmade from local Chiapas weavers and really added to the experience. All staff was responsive and friendly.
Just perfect to find a quality hotel after so many disappointing experiences elsewhere in Chiapas. Staff is very nice, they have valet parking, great beds,...
It is also a very interesting Museum, in the house of a couple of foreigners that fell in love with Chiapas and their indigenous people, and decided to stay.
Amazing place absolutely loved Tuxtla Gutiérrez Chiapas!! And of course amazing property and staff
The location was excellent, very convenient to the ruins. A great pool area which was extremely nice after a very hot and humid day sightseeing and climbing and walking (this was the main reason we chose this hotel). Beds were comfortable, rooms good sized.
Free delicious Mexican buffet breakfast included. All employees in the hotel and restaurant were super courteous and attentive to our needs. Hotel is sparkling clean. Excellent location, especially for guests who do not have access to a vehicle.
Ideal location! Super comfy, excellent staff, wish I would have stayed in San Cristobal longer.
I like the most very organic coffee in our room. Room was really comfortable. Great location.
This hotel was so beautiful, the pool is amazing! The staff was great.
The rooms, very nice ecologic. The whole setting within the jungle.
The room was very spacious and the air conditioning worked well.
