FranceBeautiful hotel with fantastic staff! The hotel is very close to the Chichén Itzá archaeological site and the Tren Maya station. The hotel offers a free transport service to and from the train station and round trip transport to the archeological site for 100 MXN. The hotel restaurant offers good food at a very reasonable price. The room was very well designed and extremely clean. The room service, the pool and cocktails were all great. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Highly recommend for any visit to Chichén Itzá.

Authentic Mexican environment, delicious traditional Yucatán food, excellent service from all the lovely staff. We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend it. The view from the room was amazing and it had a hammock! It is 25 mins away from progresso and 10 mins away from the archeological site.

Each area of town was a completely different experience.
Each area of town was a completely different experience. It was Tulum meets Munich but then there were 400 year Spanish colonial estates in bright colors draped with jungle fauna. Some areas were dense and chaotic but felt like an adventure. Other areas were rich in opulence that felt accessible. Oh and the food scene was incredible. So many excellent restaurants and so many more excellent cocktails. The an hour drive out of the city in any direction was a different eco adventure. I can’t wait to go back. Someone make me rich so I can rent a place there. Thank you.

Valladolid is a charming colonial town and an excellent base for exploring Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam, and the region's beautiful cenotes. Staying here makes it easy to visit these popular attractions early in the morning or later in the evening and avoid the midday crowds. The main square is a lovely place to stroll, and the nightly light and sound show at Iglesia de San Servacio, presented in both English and Spanish, is not to be missed.
A perfect destination for a relaxing 1-2 day stay.

Progreso is a very nice city, clean, safe and amazing.
Progreso is a very nice city, clean, safe and amazing. The malecon is fabulous, long and have the museum of meteorite. On the side of the malecon, there're some nice restaurants. The sea is warm and with only small waves. There're no dogs on the beach. And around 4 pm, the wind blows each day. I like so much that city, I'll return.
Mérida is close and there're big buses at each 15 minutes to join Progreso and it costs only 28 pesos, $2. US
And Mérida have an international airport brand new.

The monuments are impressive.
The monuments are impressive. The fees keep everything nice and running well. However, as a senior, I wished there were special prices for us and for students, regardless of country. There are a lot of stalls selling everything from common trinkets to crafts that go beyond the common to the level of gallery pieces, like the wooden masks I saw on the way to the Mayan house and cenote. Unfortunately, I neglected to write his name, but anyone can see how special his pieces are. Many people object to the many sellers, but I think it gave the park life and a feel of continuity: the Mayan people alive, well, and thriving. Take plenty of iced water and a hat. Is unmercifully hot. Take pictures, but try to actually see it as more than a simple photo OP. It is a magical place if you allow it to get to you.

Spent about 3 hours at Uxmal site.
Spent about 3 hours at Uxmal site. Lots of large sites to see and you can wander at your own pace. It was my favorite of the sites we visited on the trip. Tickets and entry could be clearer and signage at sites in Mexico is always lacking, but the quality of the ruins and architecture is fantastic. The scale, intimacy of the visit, and amount of ruins is superb.

We loved Izamal, it's such a beautiful city and the people...
We loved Izamal, it's such a beautiful city and the people are super friendly. Even the guy selling fresh juice in the town square was really friendly, yelling out good morning. Izamal is a visually stunning town as well, photographers will love it so don't forget your camera!
And the food was delicious everywhere we went. My friend had never been before and we both want to go back.

A kite surfers dream.
A kite surfers dream. At least it was for my husband who got wind every day for the 8 days we were here. Maybe he just lucked out. Good food at the restaurants in town. Everything is walkable. Its a very quiet town.... no party atmosphere. Very safe, calm feeling town with very nice people and dogs.

We trained there which is a great way to travel (Tren Maya is beautiful) but it seems they make transportation from the train stations difficult by design. It's actually quite ridiculous. We waited for over an hour for the bus and still didn't have an option into the historical area of Merida, which I'd imagine most tourists would be visiting.
The town itself has a ton to see and do - highly recommend visiting - 2 nights, 3 days is perfect!

Valladolid is a small, quaint town with some decent restaurants and an attractive main street for shopping and a nice evening stroll. Unfortunately, the video mapping was suspended while we were there, so we didn't get a chance to see that. The Valladolid letters are a cute photo op, and the paleta place across the street was affordable. Not the best paletas I've ever had, but they hit the spot on a hot night.
