Important and interesting history related to the British...
Important and interesting history related to the British influence for town development; especially the story that unfolded and is memorialized about the war years and the sad fate of many Aust & Brit POW's and the of local Sabah supporters and underground. The history of extensive logging and use of timber was of professional interest to me as a forester. The brutal destruction of the timber buildings by the Japanese military was bad - and the gradual rebuild over following 10 -20 years is remarkable. Its notablel that the central city is declining due to lack of regular upgrade and maintenance, and influx of certain migrant groups and housing needs. Also notable that commercial business and new shops have expanded out into modernized precincts away from town centre. Proximity to Sepolik rainforest reserve and other wildlife conservation parks is great for travellers to eastern Sabah. Local malaysian people are friendly and easy to relat to in the main.Guest review byPeterAustralia - 8.0
Kundasang is truly a gem in Sabah!
Kundasang is truly a gem in Sabah! Surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and cool, refreshing air, it’s the perfect destination for a peaceful getaway with family. The scenic drive up is already a treat, and once you arrive, the lush greenery and serene atmosphere make it feel like a world away from the city. We enjoyed exploring local attractions like the Desa Dairy Farm, the Alpaca Club, the vegetable markets, and the beautiful gardens. The area is also rich in culture and history, with nearby memorial sites and traditional food experiences. One of the highlights was staying at a cozy homestay near Selera Kebun, where we got to enjoy authentic dishes like nasi linopot and gulai lemak cili padi rusa salai—a must-try for food lovers! Whether you're looking to relax, reconnect with nature, or enjoy local flavors, Kundasang offers a memorable experience for all ages.Guest review byZ0272Malaysia - 6.0

The place is not for everybody, very poor people, small homeless children playing and begging around, however I enjoyed the local experience. There is nothing to do here so if you are going for diving you are ok or for an island hopping tour that was very nice snorkelling.Guest review bySkabaCzech Republic - 10.0

Only a 20 minute ride from Sandakan Airport so it’s worthwhile checking out for the day. There is only about 1 whole days worth of activities in the area I.e. the Orangutan Center, the Sun Bear center and then the rainforest discovery Center. I probably wouldn’t recommend more than 1 day in this area unless you want to do some of the extensive forest and mangrove walls that are at the rainforest discovery Center - but they’re more for the dry season rather than the rainy season. I strongly do NOT recommend the probiscus sanctuary back in Sandakan as it’s more of a single species zoo only - it’s much better to get out to the nearby Kandabangan River AreaGuest review byLukeSilviaComboUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Beautiful and great place to experience.
Beautiful and great place to experience. Enjoy the whole trip. We plan to return fit & strong to trek Mount Kinabalu. Don't miss out. Great place for a family holiday. Don't have to travel to Europe to gain such a fascinating view, Only be mindful, a lot of uphill if u wanna walk around. Great place for retirement if u love trekking n love nature. Love the attitude of road users. No hornGuest review byJulaidah MohdSingapore - 4.0
I wouldn't choose to stay in Keningau again.
I wouldn't choose to stay in Keningau again. It is a fairly grim place, noisy and with little to recommend it. I drove through Tambunan earlier on my trip which seemed like a much nicer place (although I didn't stay due to the lack of accommodation). The road through the Crocker range was good and worth a visit, but don't expect too much of Keningau itself.Guest review byGethynUnited Kingdom - 4.0

From what we saw, pretty much the only reason to stay in Lahad Datu is to catch a plane. We were there about 24 hours which was plenty. The airport is one of the smallest I have ever been to and was hot and crowded, but the plane was on time and got us to Kota Kinabalu.Guest review byKeri - 8.0
Kota Kinabalu is the most cosmopolitan of the cities in...
Kota Kinabalu is the most cosmopolitan of the cities in Sarawak and Sabah. Shopping is good, plenty of eateries and the inner city is walkable . The traffic like in all Malaysian cities is horrific. I want to point out that taxies in Malaysia don't have meters any more and charge for transport whatever the want (always to much) compared to Grab/Uber.Guest review byGerardNew Zealand
