- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 43 reviewsJose is a very kind and responsive host. Jose responded back to every little concern and questions that we had in a quick manner. Jose provided us with a welcome basket which had cake, bread, local jam, honey and wine which we thought was a wonderful gesture. Jose was kind enough to let us check in early and check out late as our flights were at odd times which we appreciate a lot. The place was very clean and close to supermarket. There were wonderful views of Pico Mountain and ocean from the balcony upstairs. Place had everything that we needed to cook our own meals including Salt, Sugar, Tea bags, Coffee and Oil. The place was quiet and peaceful. It is a bit far from city center so you need a car to get around. Accommodation even has English TV channels which are a bonus when you cannot go out because of heavy rains which happened to us on the day we were leaving Pico. Jose left us some brochures with local restaurant recommendations in the kitchen as well as brochures for companies that provide whale watching tours which was a nice gesture. Jose has thought of everything to make the place feel like a second home. Overall we had a wonderful time at Jose's place.Guest review bySindhujaCanada
- From $126.23 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 198 reviewsI absolutely can’t give enough accolades to address the property and owner. Everything was superior, and I would highly recommend this cottage! Pico Island is amazing, of course, and the cottage captures the essence of the land and the people. Made from lava rocks and stunning local wood, whoever designed the cottages here had vision. The owner was marvelous and kept in touch with us as we approached our time in Pico. Also, a thankful shout-out to the amazing women who run the local grocery store - you’ll find it as it’s the only one - as they made calls on our behalf and loaded us up with delicious bread, fruit, and cheese made nearby. 10 stars out of five for it all!!Guest review byLisa PupoUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 14 reviewsThe view , the space in the house, the swimming pool, silence, everything that we need was at house - towels, hair dryer, soap , washing liquid, even coffee.. we didn't expect that the house is so huge, on the second floor 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms plus sofa downstairs, huge space in the kitchen, living room with 2 tables , toilet downstairs, outside sun beds.. blankets if needed, an extra bed with a mattress if needed, a clothes dryer, a dishwasher, but still the most what we loved was the view on the ocean 🐳 wish to be back there , beautiful 😍Guest review byagataNetherlands
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 151 reviewsSao was such a wonderful hostess!! So kind and helpful. The breakfast served here was fantastic, the room perfect for our needs and the balcony so beautiful!! Lajes was an excellent location for us, we loved the pastry shop and restaurant just up the street. Quiet but neighborly, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else on the island! Highly recommend renting a car and taking advantage of the ocean swimming holes! Sao Roque had the best one. And the bar Cella Bar near the capital has a gorgeous view!Guest review byJessicaUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 32 reviewsRural location. Waking up in the morning to the singing of the local roosters. Clean and well kept facility out of the beaten path and imbedded within the small but very friendly community. New kitchen with impeccable cabinets plus home decorations are historic and well kept.Guest review byValquirioUnited States

Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 10.0
Lajes do Pico is a small and very cute town.
Lajes do Pico is a small and very cute town. It is clean and well maintained and has a few nice restaurants. We liked walking along the shore, eating at Ritinha restaurant, and eating Pastel de Nata at the Pastellaria.Guest review byLiviuCanada - 10.0
Quiet place.
Quiet place. Only one restaurant open starting 7pm, 2 small shops and 1 bar. No no tourist attractions. Perfect if you looking place for silence and rest and you are ready to drive to see something interesting or to go to restaurant. Recommended is to have car -- buses are not real option.Guest review byWojciechPoland - 10.0

The accommodation is few km's from Madelena and, to be flexible, you need a car to get there. Nice to walk over the lava boulders, enjoy the view at Failal and Sao Jorge. Go to the Terra Alto, nice quiet landscape.Guest review byG.J.Netherlands - 8.0

Madelena is a small town but with a few good restaurants and bathing places. It is right under Pico mountain. Access to Pico is very proximate There is an interesting coastal walk heading out of the town and great examples of the lava stone enclosures where the vines are grown. In the town there is a lovely wine bar serving wine tastings with a regional cheese platter.Guest review byGinaIreland - 10.0
Highly recommended
Highly recommended If you can secure the separate apartment in this delightful complex of clever conversions then you'll get a better view than from the ground floor apartment we had ( which was still very good ) - worth asking the host about which properties are available for your stay and ascertaining the viewsGuest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Here you can experience the wilder remoter part of Pico Island. I walked along the marked trails about 10km to the Miradouro de Alto de Cedros, finding some woodland trails on the steep hillside. If I'd had another day I'd have taken the bus to Piedade and walked back along the coast. Praia itself was quiet, with walks to the beach, a handy local shop and passing buses.Guest review byCaroline SwainUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Really good location if you don't have a car.
Really good location if you don't have a car. Really close to the airport and ferry terminal with plenty restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance. If you're planning on climbing Pico, then having a bit of spare time is a good idea, as the weather may mean you have to change the date. It took me three attempts to get a good day!Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The ocean is crystal clear.
The ocean is crystal clear. The mountain is absolutely spectacular. Everything is green and the flowers are beautiful. The subtropical temperature is perfect. People are very nice, and many speak English. It is very reasonably price to eat out. Things are very slow paced, which is great for those seeking piece and quiet on vacation.Guest review byMarlene
