We were in Anchorage for medical reasons, however, when we had free time, we were able to take in the 5th Avenue Mall and the Sullivan Steakhouse which was really enjoyable. It was a 5-minute walk to the mall, and we enjoyed the walk. We also were able to take in a Japanese restaurant, a restaurant at the Marriott hotel and a Mexican restaurant outside of the area. We would have love to have taken in some of the other attractions.Guest review byCynthiaUnited States - 10.0
The people are amazingly friendly and helpful.
The people are amazingly friendly and helpful. Tours run by Major Marine could not be improved and their Harbor 360 Hotel is super convenient and modern. They take care of any and all luggage problems you might have. Ray's Grill is a really good place for local seafood. Fresh and well prepared. The Ace hardware store can take care of almost any camping need you might have. The Kodiak Saloon and Gold Rush Bistro are also good stops for dinner and evening entertainment.Guest review byAllenUnited States - 8.0
Fairbanks is better suited to two or more people.
Fairbanks is better suited to two or more people. In the past I've had trouble booking tours unless I want to pay double. The people are lovely. I don't think I'd go there again without renting a car. Restaurants are pricey compared to the lower 48, but their season is very short. The menus are full of panko-coated proteins such as halibut. The menus also tend to offer moose and reindeer, which aren't bad. I think it's best to go there if you've got a passion to pursue such as hiking, fishing, etc.Guest review byWineauxUnited States - 8.0
Homer is great for fisherman.
Homer is great for fisherman. We also took a seaplane into Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks. We spent 4 nights and it was perfect. Highly recommend the Kannery for dinner. They also had a great Texas BBQ food truck up the highway from the Homer Spit between Safeway and the Kannery.Guest review byJoUnited States - 8.0
(Hey Booking.com, the park wasn't renamed by the current...
(Hey Booking.com, the park wasn't renamed by the current administration, just the mountain! So it is now called Mt. McKinley officially, but it is still Denali National Park!) Denali is an unusual National Park by comparison to the ones in "the lower 48". Unlike those other parks, you can't drive to all the key attractions. The only road into the park doesn't go very close to the standout feature--the mountain. At the visitor center you are more than 60 miles away from it! The park is huge; everything you can see from the road is less than 10% of the total park area. And with the road closed at roughly the halfway point (due to a landslide), you see even less. To get a real sense of the park, take the Tundra Wildnerness Bus Tour (linked from the park web site). This is one of four bus tours offered, and is the longest (5-6 hours)--but easily the best. You go as deep into the park as vehicles can go (to where the road is closed). The drivers have an average of 21 years of experience in the park, and will narrate the history, geology, flora and fauna. If they or you spot an animal, they will stop the bus and give you ample time to look at them. On our tour, we were extremely fortunate and saw all of "the big 4 mammals": Caribou, Dall sheep, Grizzly Bears, and Moose--some were even walking on the road! If you want your own adventure, you can walk or snowshoe or mush just about anywhere. There are very few designated trails, so explore!Guest review byScottUnited States - 8.0
I was in Juneau for just 2 nights.
I was in Juneau for just 2 nights. I caught the Alaska state ferry from Juneau to Bellingham. I think the area has some great hiking trails when the weather is decent. I hiked the Perseverence Trail, which I liked very much.Guest review byCharlesUnited States - 10.0

2nd time we have been Talkeetna so that tells you that it is a little goldmine. The ice-cream store you have to line up for it but the wait is worth it. We had zucchini bread from another vendor for breakfast and that was awesome. Around the corner from the icecream shop we found this place which had hamburgers and steak and the meal was amazing. The best fries ever. The quilt shop is brilliant and you can catch a train here for a day tour which we should have done. It is an amazing place. We did a tour of Denali so it was a 2 1/2 hr drive from here to and from but well worth setting up here.Guest review byKerrynAustralia - 10.0

Healy is very convenient if you have a car and are visiting Denali National Park and Preserve. There is a reasonably good grocery and liquor store. Denali Park is amazing, and I could not recommend it more if you like mountains. We were lucky enough to actually see the mountain.Guest review byGretchenUnited States - 8.0

We chose Palmer for an overnight stop for our travel itinerary. We did not seek it out for anything else, but were pleasantly surprised to find a very tidy well kept town that was welcoming - just what we had hoped for.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Valdez was good.
Valdez was good. Would of like a restaurant to fix what you catch. For the prices to eat I would lot a better portion of food. The fat mermaid was a disappointment. But the Valdez Outfitters was top notch! Would love to come back. We were on No Name for the first fishing adventure. We didn't catch our limit. But we did catch silver & pink salmon. My husband caught the variety of fish. We had 5 people on our boat. Guss did a tremendous job of trying to find the fish. He tried his hardest for us to catch our limit. But the fish didn't corporate. He warn us to watch our poles. So some people missed out on a big fish. I think if you missed your opportunity then the next person should be up to reel in a fish. But everybody had there chance. I think a deck hand would help. But I know it's crowded to make sure everybody gets a turn. Guss needs a chair with cushions.! Then for the second day of fishing. We went on the Chugach girl. Iit was for firther out in the ocean. But the weather wasnt going to corporate. But we went for the smaller Halibut. We caught our limit but they only weigh 15 lbs. We caught out limit on black bass (rock fish). The seats were better, but the waves were at least 6' or higher. It was ruff but we were there to fish. Lloyd was so fantastic. I don't think anybody was waiting for bait. We did get tangled up a bit. But that's the currents fault. Lloyd worked his butt off. The current made it Ruff. I highly recommend the VALDEZ OUTFITTERS ! This was my bucket list trip. Would love to come back to Valdez to Fish. Thank you to Guss & Lloyd. Hope if we do get to come back it's with you guys. Would love to reel in a Halibut thats a 100 pounder or bigger.Guest review byYates
