Washington DC has arrived! It has to be one of the great destinations in the U. S. A. It offers an abundance of cultural attractions and because it's the federal city the national museums are free. Not the best theater town in the country but DC has excellent regional theater with productions that eventually find their way to Broadway. DC is also a good poetry town with an active calendar of local poets presenting their most recent work year 'round. The number and type of restaurants is impressive; you'll find food representative of all parts of the globe. There is a large selection of budget friendly restaurants for travelers on limited funds. There are tourist attractions everywhere immediately inside the District of Columbia as well in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Public transportation to district attractions are easily accessible via the D. C. metro system. If you're a sports fan or fanatic, you'll find a team that you'll be able to support and see the local home team play a competitive game of baseball, basketball, football, hockey or soccer at the professional level. Allow yourself at least a week to give Washington DC a thorough visit. Time your visit to coincide with the local festivals such as the DC Jazz Festival, the Cherry Blossom Festival, the H Street Festival, the National Arboretum Tram Tour for Azalea season. Check with DC tourism for their special events calendar. It's a great city to visit any time of the year.
