Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place
to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.

Ghent is a beautiful city with way fewer tourists than Bruges. It also feels friendlier and not like anyone wants to rip you off.
The food scene is great, although it can be hard to find a restaurant breakfast before 11am. Just buy pastries or waffles instead!

All the charm and majesty of Bruges with the vibrancy and character of Brussels. Canal tours were great, 12th Century castle was fun (and audio tour was funny), great bars, easily walkable, and felt super safe. We only did 1 day but I think we would have been able to do 2-3 and saw even more (don't think it needs more than 3 though).

We have family in Ghent, so go there often.
We have family in Ghent, so go there often. It is lovely city, one of the great medieval centres, and less well known than Bruges. Has some spectacular buildings and art works. Museums are OK but not brilliant. Travel is easier now that tram system repairs are complete and I would advise getting the De Lijn app to pay for tram and bus journeys . Very walkable so bring comfortable shoes. Food is varied and good.
Kris is a fantastic host, very welcoming and as a Ghent local is an expert on the city. I received some great advice about key attractions and places to eat, as well as some of the history of Ghent and Belgium. The room was super cosy and with a nice view of the south side of the city. Breakfast was fabulous, testament to Kris’ exceptional hospitality! Would highly recommend for couples/solo travellers. It’s also near the beautiful Citadelpark and the university botanic gardens, which I definitely recommend for a place to relax :)
We used the hotel to explore Ghent as a family. The rooms are really big and the connection to the city centre is quick. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back!
Also, thanks to the really attentive and lovely staff.

Good free parking next to the road.
A bakery close by to buy breakfast.
Small sauna in the room.
Location is good for Ghent, short walk into the city centre, nearby to 2 tram stops, 15minutes tram from the train station so easy to visit other Belgium cities
