Loved how quiet the place was. The food was delicious. Ileana took very good care of us. She basically does everything there from checking in to getting the food ready. She was the heart of the place.

The best place to stay with the best people, super clean, super comfy and everything like my grandparents place, it's like a little museum basically. We only stayed one night but it was a rare experience in the very very good way. Kitchen with all amenities, grill outside, parkkng place, heated well, beds very comfy. We'll definitely come to stay more woth the kids as well.

We spent one night in Sapinta to visit the Merry Cemetery, and stayed and ate at Plai cu Peri which was excellent. Would have loved to stay an extra night for more down time but you really only need a day there.
The Merry Cemetery is really beautiful and definitely worth visiting. Go early before it gets too busy.

It was an adventure for us to get there and back as there is no public transport from Sighet but once you're there you can enjoy the views. Unfortunately i didn't have time to do some research in advance as we booked literally last minute our trip there or else could have enjoyed a hike in the hills nearby. We walked up to the river bordering Ukraine though, seen the monastery and the tall wooden church on the way there, went to Cimitirul Vesel, enjoyed a stroll and a bit of unexpected shopping in the local 'bazaar' and had some good lunch at La Pogace and also visited a local's house turned into a sort of museum. He explained what life was like during the Hungarian-Austrian Empire, then the communist regime, traditions, and gave us some local home-made brandy, which was an interesting experience.
Beware the local stray dogs though...an absolute nightmare and disgrace of Romania! We had to turn back on some roads as we were walking everywhere because of these frightening dogs barking as soon as they spotted us in the distance. Thankfully no accident occurred but you never know...

Places that cut your expiration through beauty, tranquility...
Places that cut your expiration through beauty, tranquility and landscapes of a size and diversity as it is very difficult to find, simple Romanian architecture, beautiful through its naivety, spirituality.
Visit as much of the Rodnei mountains, you won't find many similar places.
Visit necessarily: the monastery near Plai with bristles, the Merry Cemetery, at least an authentic Maramures church and at least the Waterfall of Horses (for all these you will need two days).
The PLAI CU PERI restaurant is by far the best in the area

The place is known for the happy cemetery, However we totally didn't care about it (nice place, OK...) What is great there is the landscape, the village itself. Lots of great walks towards the forest and water streams. And if you like the cemetery too - that's also fine.
