- From $593.99 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 24 reviewsThe location was great. It's very close to Volcanoes National Park as well as a fairly easy drive from Hilo and Kona. The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful and more than we could eat. The room was very large and the beds were comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Carlos and John were great! They booked a Hula dance instructor (Kumu Male) for our family to have a private lesson. This cultural experience greatly exceeded our expectations. Our daughters absolutely loved it. If you are looking for a great place to stay near Volcano don't look any farther.Guest review bydrexelUnited States
- From $158.54 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very Good - What previous guests thought, 141 reviewsBreakfast vouchers were provided for a nearby bakery, which we enjoyed. It took awhile, but we didn’t mind, as we took it as part of the slower island pace. In addition to the place meeting our expectations, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that we could freely borrow a number of things that made visiting beaches easier: beach chairs, snorkel sets, beach towels, coolers, umbrellas… It was also located in a beautiful location with an amazing morning view and an enchanting drive through a rainforest to get to and from the guesthouse.Guest review byJeffreyMalawi
- From $346.92 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 1,706 reviewsThere was complimentary coffee, tea, milk (+almond milk), cold/hot water 24/7. You could also take out beach cruisers/bikes and stand-up paddle boards for free any day. The staff were extremely friendly and gave us personal recommendations on how best to visit the Volcano National Park. They also gave us extra time to check out. They also have daily activities like live music, yoga, and lei making, all provided free of charge. There was also a nice view at the lobby of a koi fish pond with hammocks by the side with a nice, regular, breeze.Guest review byMauriceHong Kong
- From $206.43 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 73 reviewsWe absolutely loved Arnott’s Lodging! It was amazing to sit on the lanai and listen to all of the birds sing….didn’t even bother us that it rained. The two-bedroom suite was immaculate. Beds so comfy. Everything you need is in the kitchen. Love that it is eco-friendly. Sarah, host, was efficient and friendly. Will definitely stay again.Guest review byAnnUnited States

I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii."
I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii." It is not overrun with tall modern buildings, and "Tacky Tourist Attractions." It maintains an Old Hawaii Charm. You're not overwhelmed with street performers and aggressive sales people trying to pull you into their cosmetics stores. Yet there are still some homeless people there which is not good. However, I feel very safe in Hilo. There are nearby beautiful gardens and great beaches! Hilo is surrounded by so much natural beauty. There are some great restaurants there as well. I really like all of them, and I make sure to have at least one dinner at Hilo Bay Cafe. I also always make sure to visit the Imiloa Astronomy Center by UH Hilo. It is an excellent place to learn about the history & culture of Hawaii. And their planetarium has amazing presentations!Guest review byGayleUnited States - 10.0
It is close to Volcano National Park.
It is close to Volcano National Park. In the park, there are many scenic hiking trails, interesting natural wonders, and with luck, an eruption. Facilities in the town are minimal, with limited dining and groceries.Guest review byPhilip - 8.0

Location is a beautiful escape, I could stare at the ocean all day. The house is very nice, extremely clean. I really liked my room. I like the clothing optional idea. It’s a drive to grocery store, gas, restaurants, I really enjoyed the Thai restaurant in town, but again a drive away.Guest review byStephenUnited States - 8.0

Keaau is an authentic neighborhood on Hawai'i Island vs. a manicured resort. You will get a feel for what it is like to live in Hawai'i, amid the beautiful nature. It is not super close to swimmable beaches, however there is a waterfront park in the neighborhood where you can see the surf pounding against the lava rocks. There is also a local farmer's market nearby. Hilo town is about 11 miles away and has good shopping and some restaurants. The volcano is about a half hour drive away and definitely worth visiting.Guest review byColleenUnited States - 10.0

The location where we stay was 30 min drive from Hilo and it was really commuting distance. We really think it was very great place to enjoy our real free time instead of rushing to sightseeing many places.Guest review byShinJapan - 8.0

It's a shared accommodation with the host staying at the garage and other bedrooms occupied by other guests. Lots of variations of coffee available for breakfast. Apples, bananas are available as well. No dishwasher available. So you need to wash the dishes yourself. Kitchen is adequate with all the necessities. Location is good. Hilo is 20 miles away. Volcano is 30 miles away. Open parking outside the house. Bathroom and bedroom was neat and clean.Guest review byDineshUnited States - 8.0

If you are looking for a fancy hotel room, this might not be your place. If you are looking for a Acofortabe place to stay and get a night's sleep so you can go explore what Hawaii has to offer then this is a good option to put a little more money in the exploring budget.Guest review byJust Lucky MCanada - 8.0
This is a walk back in time, history of the plantation era.
This is a walk back in time, history of the plantation era. Updated Inn in a sleepy little town. There are a few restaurants and Vintage shop and everyone is friendly. It is a short drive to the Akaka Falls and only about 20min to Hilo. There are many "jungle" walks to explore in the area and an amazing botanical garden on route to Hilo.Guest review byKimCanada - 10.0

Has the atmosphere of old Hawaii in the downtown, but it also has new and intriguing areas such as the University of Hawaii at Hilo and it's astronomy center. It also has access to Volcanoes National Park, which is an iconic park and sometimes volcanic eruptions to observe. It also has an extremely extensive farmers market with whole range of tropical fruits and vegetables.Guest review byJamesUnited States - 10.0

Two or three days seems the right amount of time for Volcano and it's obvious neighbouring attractions. The town itself seems a bit "tourist challenged" in that there are a very limited number of dining choices. Other than that, there is a weekly Farmers Market on Sunday mornings, a gas station, hardware store, a couple of general stores, a slew of BnBs...and that's about it. All the interest lies in the nearby Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and rightly so.Guest review byD. S. McKenzieCanada
