One of the few places on the island that didn't want to make a big deal about someone arriving late in the day. Knowing I could get in at any point made the flight, car hire and driving so much less stressful. After that, it was great to find it was also above the cloud line and a great place to start hiking from. The instructions were clear and the host attentive. I've stayed in traditional Canary style properties before but this one was well set-up and I had a good night's sleep. I also like the period furnishings; good quality and part of the culture instead of mindless consumerism. Upgrades have been made where convenient such as my room having 4 sockets in it and 1 right next to the bed.

    Vilaflor is half way up to the caldera Las Cañadas from the tourist hell resorts at the S coast. Can be a bit fresh/chilly in the evenings depending on the season. Several restaurants, bars, bakeries and small supermarkets = everything that you need.

    Amazing little town, perfect for a getaway from all the busy seaside resorts. Has a pleasant atmosphere, nice restaurants and cafés and an ideal location for hikes in the area. I was thru-hiking the GR131.

    I’m not sure if there’s anything else to do in Vilaflor than...

    I’m not sure if there’s anything else to do in Vilaflor than the hiking trails, mountains and forest. Especially at weekends, everything is closed - shops (only local), restaurants, no people outside, the main square is surprisingly steep and in the middle is overgrown greenery like garden which makes impossible to take a photo of the centre of the village. Two churches may be open at times. Good parking lot by the churches, but the village is long, winding, steep, spreading sideways, hard to say where it begins and ends. And in January it’s really from chilly to freezing, unlike the coast.

    The location was lovely - half way up El Teide with adjacent pine forests for walking and easy access to the National Park. The village has several good restaurants although they tend to close early. The accommodation is very basic and most rooms have poor facilities - best for a one or perhaps two night stay. For birders: easy to see canary, blue chaffinch and Berthelot's pipit

    Wonderful little village so high up in the mountains, lots of sunshine and clean air, beautiful hiking trails around and great to see the canary pine forest, lovely bakery and little restaurants , perfect as a base to explore the national park or just to relax and reconnect with nature

    Vilaflor is a lovely small high mountain village situated on...

    Vilaflor is a lovely small high mountain village situated on a steep hillside having several options for accommodation. It appears to be on the main bus route from the coast up into the volcanic caldera of Mount Teide National Park. There are several shops to get supplies. There are a number of restaurants which we found seemed to cater mainly for day travellers, most seemed to close early in the evening giving limited options. There are a small number of friendly bar/cafes, again opening times did not seem to correspond with online opening times, although this may be seasonal. The village is ideal for walkers and cyclists or relaxing, but definitely not a party type destination. It may also cause issues for those with some mobility limitations. Although there are buses and taxis available ideally we would recommend having a hire car to enable travel at most convenient times and for access to the higher mountain areas. We found that all parking areas are free at point of access, but early or late arrival is wise as the parking fills up very quickly. There is a relatively new information centre and museum at the Parador de Canadas Del Teide which has good clean toilets and currently supply a free map of all the local walking trails. For those who wish to remain in the vicinity of Vilaflor itself there are a large number of local walking/cycling trails available

    When I looked at google streetview pictures I was a bit sceptical, but this hotel is just fenomenal. It is like an oasis when you are tired. I had a fantastic one night stay, in the morning the sun welcomes you with a fantastic view, and you feel like on a trail in a tropical garden (rooms outside the hotel). There is also a restaurant which serves quite good food, perfect for hungry travelers. The hotel has heating which is not always the typical. As per the room - it was clean and had a comfortable bed.

    Overall the accommodation was good. Clean, functional, lovely views and good location in the very attractive village of Vilaflor. Our stay was tarnished by our rude host who after not responding to phone calls and messages prior to check-in, gave us a confrontational telling off for apparently waiting in the wrong place to check-in. The lady who served us breakfast however was very pleasant, polite and professional. Perhaps she could teach her male colleague a lesson in customer service.

    Very nice and friendly staff. The half-board is very good. You get a breakfast that is every day a little bit different and for dinner every other day is à la carte and the other days there is a menu to choose from (two starters, two mains, and dessert). The rooms are spacious, quite and with a view of the seaside. The location is good for hikes and going up el Teide. Parking is free, in front of the hotel.

    We stay the last 3 days in the SPA Hotel. We enjoyed the SPA very much, after hiking and birding. The stay it this calm hotel in the pinetrees is the very opposite of the many awful loud and crowdy hotels at the beach.
