Romantic Brazil
Located in the ‘Romantic Route’ region of southern Brazil, the picturesque town of Gramado is a mosaic of German, Italian, and Brazilian traditions. It is located in the Gaúcha Hills area, at an average of 850 metres above sea level, and is considered one of the most charming places in the Brazilian hinterland.
Portuguese immigrants arrived in the area in 1875, and they were soon joined by Germans and Italians. This influence can be noticed in the architecture, as well as in the local cuisine and traditions of Gramado. Even hotels and ‘pousada’ guest houses in this area seem to belong to Alpine or German landscapes.
The popular Black Lake or ‘Lago Negro’ was artificially created in the 50’s after a forest fire, and its area was planted with species from Germany’s Black Forest. B&B’s and hotels near Gramado’s Lago Negro offer beautiful natural surroundings. The Film Festival is the biggest event of the year.

Gramado is a small city with so many things to do. In many ways it has a very "German" touch and it doesn't feel like you're in Brazil at all. It's great for a couple's trip, but there are also so many amusement parks that you can easily stay there with kids and never get bored.
