I arrived early and staff were welcoming and helpful as they agreed to keep my luggage ready for check-in later. The location is for someone visiting Kurashiki for the first time: leabe the JR station on the side where the Tourist Information is located - very helpful and friendly staff here. Down the escalator next to Tourist Information, cross a busy road, and then continue straight down along the main road for a few minutes. Looking up, and on the right-hand side, you can see the name on the side of the hotel. Despite the busy road outside, my room was quiet. Directly across this road is one of several shopping arcades: a variety of restaurants around. The Bikan (main tourist area) is about ten minutes walk. I chose to visit the Achi Shrine - top of a wooded park - before joining the crowds. The Bikan area is wonderfully peaceful early morning and evening (after 17.00). It's fun to walk around at any time. If you have time, I recommend taking a JR train to Bitchu-Takahashi: the samurai houses are a delight to visit, with wonderfully welcoming and enthusiastic staff. I would certainly stay at the Green Rich Hotel Kurashiki again.

Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough to basically shop and wander the historical area which I think is the main attraction anyway. Beautiful, scenic, clean, historic. And we loved Yoshii Ryokan in the heart of it all. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautfiul. A glimpse of times gone by. Old buildings, quiet streets lit by lanterns at night. Very good restaurants. The canal was lovely to look at. Very good shops, all generally selling products of high quality.

We timed our trip to co inside with the festival of lights and so pleased we got to experience the first night of the light festival before we moved on. Absolutely beautiful in the bikan historic district wandering along the canals with so much to see. Easy city to navigate with lots of great eateries.

Kurashiki is a beautiful, well preserved old town, much like Kyoto but without the crowds of tourists. The Folk Art Museum and the Kyosai Museum are particular highlights. If you're interested in Japanese history and culture, and don't want to be swamped with other tourists, I can't recommend Kurashiki enough.

Kurashiki is a great town, especially the old quarter. We stayed several nights but also did day trips from our accommodation. It was great to come back to Kurashiki at the end of the day. There is a train station right there to do day trips, a great shopping mall, as well as the stores in the old town.

    We loved Kurashiki.

We loved Kurashiki. The historical quarter is so pretty with the gorgeous canal and its boats, along with the streets of former rice storehouses. The old town is quick and easy to navigate and there is so much to do! We also loved exploring the shops and enjoyed a delicious meal of Bukkake udon, a local specialty. Would highly recommend a visit here. Note: The Momotaru “Peach Boy” Folk Museum was great for our 10 year old daughter and fun for us too!!

We had a fabulous stay, found the beds extremely comfortable! The 102 year old house is positioned in a quiet area about 20 min from central Kurashiki and has modern amenities such as a TV projector and heat pumps. The host, who is staying in the property next door, went over and beyond ensure we had a pleasant stay and provided great recommendations, even booked a dinner venue for us! We would highly recommend staying at Retreat Kobayashi, especially if you want to experience more authentic side of Japan.

Set within a former kimono merchant’s home in Kurashiki’s stunning historical quarter, Yoruya offers a private and quietly luxurious stay. The team behind this ryokan preserved the building’s century-old structure while introducing clean lines, soft textures, and a sense of modern calm. With just a few rooms, an intimate dining experience, and crafted details throughout, it feels more like a private retreat than a hotel. Something that will linger with you for a long time.

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It was in a great location, close to the station, downtown & the historic area. It was totally sound proof, spotlessly clean & tastefully decorated. The amenities were of high quality & the snacks provided were generous & varied with a focus on local produce. Lastly, the staff were delightful & were truly committed to providing an excellent service. It was a truly memorable stay in Kurashiki.

An incredibly fancy hotel for such a great price. Location is amazing, right between the station and the historical district. I loved that breakfast was on the top floor, which turns into the nicest lounge for the rest of the day. Rooms are luxurious. There's a billard, a gym and a beautiful onsen. Breakfast was delicious, too.
