FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square - Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbours Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Opposite Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Centre for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys whose traditional architecture contrasts with wider, modern roads including Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the north-east.

Beijing is a city where people are very friendly and hospitable. People often do not speak English, but they often use a mobile translator and try to help. The architecture of the center of Beijing, in my opinion, is a must-see. The food is very cheap and the choice is huge. I was far from the business center and was not afraid at all. It is a very safe country to travel. Moreover, a bus ride costs only 2 yuan, and the subway only 4-6 yuan.

Beijing is a city that deserves to be explored without...

Beijing is a city that deserves to be explored without rushing. Steeped in thousands of years of history and tradition, it offers an endless list of stories waiting to be discovered. To truly take it all in, plan for at least a full week — anything less will feel like you’re just scratching the surface. Here, you’ll find a world-class food scene, efficient public transportation, and a fascinating mix of imperial landmarks and futuristic architecture. From the grandeur of the Forbidden City to the shimmering skylines of its business districts, every corner tells a different story. That said, the city is still growing into its role as a truly international destination. Roughly 99% of basic information — from transport signs to menus and attraction details — is available only in Chinese. Locals, while respectful, can feel a bit distant and may seem impatient with foreign visitors. To fully enjoy Beijing without stress, a few essentials are non-negotiable: Alipay linked to your credit card — the go-to payment method for almost everything. A good VPN like Hola Fly to stay connected with the outside world. A high-capacity power bank to keep your phone charged while navigating the city. With these three tools, you can unlock the very best of China’s capital — a destination where the past and future meet in the most spectacular way.

The language barrier is terrible. No one speaks English. I couldn't use WeChat. There are tons of people in the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. I recommend booking with tour companies to access tourist sites; otherwise, it's impossible. The subway is cheap, but taxis are also very cheap.

Beijing is a great city to travel to.

Beijing is a great city to travel to. We stayed 9 days.A lot to explore and advisable to use the subway it is quick and speedy and you can get everywhere in beijing. The pay machine for ticket are easy to use also with visa or mastercard. (English available on all machines and maps in the subways).Advisible to get a metro map with the sightseeing locations on it ( and there alot),makes it very easy to use. Eating is for sure no problem. In smaller restaurants we used alipay is advisable and works great. Wechat is used alot to. But we didnt use it.

The grand scale of the buildings and the massive squares are difficult to image unless you see them yourselves. Lots of history and culture. Best thing is that you can reach to most of the famous destinations by taking the subways. Taxi fares are inexpensive in China. Going up to the Great Wall was quite an experience. One advice is do the travelling when the kids are in schools to avoid the crowds.
