We absolutely loved the very comfortable rooms which are recently updated, with nice air conditioning and a balcony. The pool is fantastic and large and well cared for. My kids really enjoyed the basketball soccer area and the game room.

This is a difficult review to write because there were positives: the location was good, most of the staff were friendly. The last day when we left we came across a very harsh angry lady, loud and quite unpleasant. The food was fresh, and the shared spaces were pleasant. However, the apartment itself was very disappointing. We are certain we experienced bed bug bites — not mosquito bites — which a pharmacist confirmed. On arrival, we pulled back the bedding in Room 6 to find the mattress cover filthy. We have photos as proof. We also have two small service dogs, and we brought our own bedding for them, so they did not contribute to any mess. The crockery was dirty, clearly unchecked after the dishwasher cycle. There were no cloths for drying dishes, only a very smelly sponge for cleaning them. The fan by the bed was unusable until we cleaned it ourselves due to heavy dust and grime. One day, we accidentally locked the key in the apartment, but there was no staff on-site after 11 a.m. to help. A lengthy phone call with strong language barrier an hour or later … with two dogs locked in the room it was not pleasant. The pool was brilliant but so heavily chlorinated it was unpleasant to stay in for long. On-site parking was convenient, but the gate, despite having a keypad, could be opened manually from both sides, so be questioned the security, Breakfast was fresh daily but expensive and repetitive. Checkout was frustrating — it took over an hour. We queried one €48 charge but resolved that quickly. The delay came from two staff members struggling to calculate the remaining bill. Sadly, despite some positives, we would not return.

    Being there in the early morning, after staying overnight...

    Being there in the early morning, after staying overnight was perfect. We were able to participate in the vespers at 6:45, go to mass at 7 am and see the Lady of the Throne at 8 am. We are early people, so having to wait until 10 am for a funicular out was frustrating, but worth the quiet morning at the monestary.

    Like its good location, and free to enter the monastry if you are a guest in the hotel. Great to see the sun rise when there are no tourist, and you can pray quietly both in late evening and super early in the morning. In the stay, God also showed me extraordinary sign when I was walking outside at 5am. Definitely a sacred place.

    The best is to arrive in the second part of the day and stay...

    The best is to arrive in the second part of the day and stay over night when it is less crowded to enjoy the views and silence. There are few trails around the monastery. You may walk one of them before sunset and in the morning you may go to San Jeroni and enjoy the views before its too hot. You may ask for a trail map in the information office. You may go to San Jeroni without using funicular , just take steps next to Abbat Oliba statue and you will see pointers. You may also buy water in the machine in the hostel next to the statue. In the evening noone asked for a ticket to see Madonna although if you stay in the hotel you have free access anyway.

    Amazing place.

    Amazing place. Just don't be in a hurry and have time to feel it. If you can have an overnight, have it! Late evening and early morning hours are the best time to have the real feel of Montserrat.

    As shown in any photo of the place, Montserrat is one of the...

    As shown in any photo of the place, Montserrat is one of the most beautiful religious sights on the planet. It is also packed all day with thousands of pilgrims and other visitors. I enjoyed the Sant Joan funicular up the mountain from the Monastery, then the scenic 45 minute walk back down, with panoramic views of the surrounding country, all the way to Barcelona. Staying on site was key, as things were much nicer after 5-6pm when all the crowds left. I stayed there overnight partly to see the 6:30 choir practice of the Escalonia Choir. Supposedly it is "Europe's oldest boys choir." I believe that, since the choir that I saw practice at that particular time, averaged 60-70 years in age! Evening was also nice in the cave-like rocks along the mountain side of the Cathedral, where there were thousands and thousands of lit candles left by the faithful during the day.

    We loved the cathedral and the easy access to the Virgin. We then took the train to the top and went for a great hike. The views are astonishing. Having read about really expensive parking up there, we were a bit afraid. However, hotel guests get a reduction and parking fees are very reasonable. This place is really worth a visit.

    The room had a spectacular view onto the monastery and wider vista (although I have seen that some people have not been so lucky and have instead faced the cliff face). Staying so close allows you to experience the monastery in the late evening before it closes without the crowds. Also, we were able to enjoy the sunrise with a short walk up to Michael's Cross which I would thoroughly recommend. Whilst there is no parking directly adjacent to the hotel, you can use the temporary space to drop your bags and then park for 14euros nearby.

    Breakfast was superb had a lot of choices - they had fruits and desserts not to mention. Totally loved breakfast and the location too. We loved everything about the place. We made the right decision to stay overnight in Montserrat especially at night and early morning when the crowd/visitors had left. It was quiet you had the whole place to yourself.
