Hydra was very busy when we arrived - then we realised a cruise ship had docked and there were thousands on shore. however, they went as fast as they arrived which was great. Hydra was wonderful and no cars! Get info on all the beaches and boat ferries before you go as it can get expensive. Food was great ,souvenir store were overpriced. We went for 2 nights, 3nights would have been perfect. Book July or September , avoid August by all means, all the locals go on vacation and it gets over crowded . August is also high season and priced almost double. Comfortable foot ware a must. You will love the island. Bought our drinks and sat on the bench one night on the cliff watching the waves and sunset.Guest review bymaria - 8.0

We enjoyed our stay on Hydra, but probably stayed one day too long - 3 would have been enough. The beaches are not really close - be prepared for a 30-40 minute walk each way or to pay for a water taxi - little sand, mostly pebbles and largish stones, and little shade, but the water is warm, clear and refreshing when it's hot. ( we were there in August ) would recommend investing in some water shoes. Sunbed hire can be expensive. It was lovely to visit, but to be honest we preferred our stay on Spetses, as it a more chilled and a bit less touristy. A must place just 1 hr with a boat from Pireaus. A perfect place for relaxation good food and a nice stroll to narrow perfect streets. Hydra is a lovely little Island with azure blue waters and a lively port. Donkeys and cats ( who we loved) abound. We really enjoyed our two day visit relaxing at the many bars and restaurants. What we liked most was the ease of getting around, the lovely shops, the swimming hole off the rocks, the viewing spots, the atmosphere, friendly locals. We ate from the supermarket - the abundant breakfast at Hotel Mistral meant we only needed to snack the rest of the day. We aren’t restaurant people anyway. We loved eating on a park bench while the sun was setting and the temperature cooling slightly. Walking around Hydra is easy, mostly flat and nothing is too far away. What we didn’t like was the pretentious feeling while walking through the town. It was like being on the tv set of “The Real Wives of Hollywood”. So many false women strutting their stuff with their fancy clothes (or lack thereof), admiring themselves in every shop window, dressed like they were in Hollywood rather than a relaxed Greek island. The owner was so friendly, helpful and chilled. They even had a help yourself fridge full of wine and just trusted you to let them know which one you picked to pay at the end. Incredible roof top sitting area with 360 views of the port and mountains. A gorgeous, resident cat chilled in the lobby and was happy to give cuddles.
