FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

We were fortunate to have great weather so hanging out along Aker Brygge and Bjorvika was a pleasure. Taking advantage of the swimming spots was a highlight. Lots of interesting places to explore - the opera house is amazing, the Munch exhibition was fantastic and the view from the ski jump at Holmenkollen breathtaking. Oslo is expensive but we found some reasonably priced spots and the food market offered well priced options.

A fabulous city, full of interest. There are so many museums, we were sad not to fit more in to our visit. A wide selection of good restaurants to suit every taste and pocket. Very attractive architecture and city. Plenty of history. Beautiful surroundings including the mini cruise in the fjord. We loved Oslo and would love to return.

The clean air, the fantastic drinking water, the friendly people, the efficient metro service and the clean streets.... wonderful place to visit. Did not see any litter or dog mess, leaving us free to look up and admire the architecture without worry! Plenty to do and see. Just needed more time. Second visit currently in the planning stages.

It was very hot while we were in Oslo so my daughter enjoyed swimming at the beach near the opera house and also wading in the water and under a fountain in the city square! She enjoyed walking on the roof of the opera house and we both enjoyed Munch Art Gallery. We tthought the Hop On Hop Off bus gave us a good overall idea of the city's highlights.

If you’re visiting in the summertime, be warned that with 18+ hours of sunlight and temperature now reaching the mid 80s, these hotels do not have air conditioning. It’s extremely uncomfortable to travel and stay in the city in the summer time.

Quite a lot to see in the central city, but also a key transport hub for accessing southern Norway or catching a plane or boat to the north. I spent a few days seeing most of the interesting spots in the central city. I walked everywhere. It was early spring, so still a bit cold for most tourists, but there was still good cross-country skiing at higher elevations in the south.

Great location with a few spots to unload luggage in front of the hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly. The gym in the basement was clean, spacious and had good equipment. The room was clean and comfy, with large floor to ceiling windows. The breakfast was what nudged our rating up to a 9. The breakfast room was large and airy. The breakfast itself was of high quality with so many options. We splurged on a 5 star breakfast at the Britannia in Trondheim later in the trip and both agreed that the Karl Johan was better.
