Breakfast, buffet. I cannot think of any item that was not provided, the choice was incredible catering for all tastes and cultures, included soya/lactose-free/ vegan etc etc. Absolutely amazing - allow plenty of time to enjoy it! Views from our room were stunning but all corridors have huge windows with amazing views. Hotel location is such that many tours/trips collect from just outside the door.

FAQs about hotels in Tromsø

The Gateway to the Arctic

Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.

If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.

The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.

Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.

Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.

The city itself can be seen in a day, but spending a few days doing activities such as Dog-sledding or Sami reindeer visits are well worth it. We stayed 4 nights and thought that was perfect to see everything. We saw beautiful northern lights on two of the nights and visited all the museums, Polaria and the polar museum were great value and really nice to visit but the Troll museum was the most disappointing for the price.

Don't go expecting that 1 day is enough to see the aurora.

Don't go expecting that 1 day is enough to see the aurora. It is very unpredictable and can take some time. All the touristic activities are basically outside of the city. The city itself does not have much to do/visit besides the church, the bridge and the mountain that you can go to the top. You will be taken elsewhere otherwise (like to see the wild life or chase the aurora) The night life is quite good with lots of bars and pubs.

Tromso in November is very pretty.

Tromso in November is very pretty. There is snow all around on the mountains, The city has everything you need, including a nice big mall near the airport. It was a little icy when we where there, but you have to expect this and wear appropriate shoes. Parking was a surprise, it is very expensive, and strict. Research where you can park, how to park, and get the app. well before you arrive. We had no idea how hard parking would be, so took us by surprise. The Norwegian people are very lovely, friendly and helpful. We had northern lights our first night, and snow the next. Everything we were after. Beautiful reindeer everywhere out of town.

Tromsø was the most magical place to visit.

Tromsø was the most magical place to visit. Sitting in amongst the snowy mountains was so romantic. Really great food and experiences available. We chased the northern lights which was a dream of mine, we were able to see them twice. We had a lovely sauna experience on a boat, fed reindeer and learned about Sami culture. Really enjoyed every aspect of what this town has to offer and can’t wait until the next time I am able to visit. I only wish I were able to stay longer as there is so much more to do, I would recommend anyone stay minimum 5 days to have the best chance to see everything.

Liked everything! Comfy beds, large bath, washing machine, dishwasher, towels, bedding, all superb! Best part was Nils who served well above and beyond call of duty and deftly solved two of our glaring logistical issues. Should I say that he picked us up and delivered us and our luggage to a hotel to hold the bags and then to our destination in town when we found ourselves in a bit of a conundrum. Nils is an outstanding ambassador for Norway should get a raise immediately!

We stayed at the clarion hotel for four nights on a half board basis. We considered the cost of same to be of excellent value, there was an excellent choice and array of food at both breakfast and dinner in the evening with attention to detail by the chef on duty. Staff were extremely helpful and obliging. We did particularly like the never ending supply of tea and coffee and the afternoon sweet treats which were appreciated if we had been out from early morning.

Considering the prices for hotels in Norway, this was reasonably priced. The kitchen in the room saves more money by avoiding eating at restaurants. The hotel's location is convenient and central. The heating worked amazingly despite the intense cold outdoors, the bed was comfortable and the WiFi helped cope with the lack of sunlight. Noises were minimally heard, perhaps since the hotel was quite empty. The lady at the reception was super friendly and helpful

A really nice surprise is that coffee, hot chocolate and tea are 24h free for all guests and the kitchen can be used any time, which adds a welcome option for lunch and dinner since restaurants in Tromso can be quite expensive. The Rooms are very cosy, the staff helpful and friendly and the common bathrooms were always clean during our whole stay. We also took the Northern Lights Tour offered by the hotel and can also really recommend it.

The location is the best, where it is right at the harbor and is close to everything. the staff is friendly, and the room is very clean. we had a room with the water view that you could see the harbor, the bridge and the Arctic Cathedral. The airport express bus has a stop right next door. We took the city bus from the airport that costs about 4 $USD per person to the city center with only 3 minutes' walk to the hotel.

The property is a new house turned into a lodge. Living area upstairs so views are nice. Kitchen well supplied except for cups. BYO cup as there are only 3. A supermarket is 5 minutes up the road. Only a 25min walk to the city centre. Bathrooms were large and functional. Property is near the lake with beautiful views along the walking path. Perfect spot to catch the Northern Lights.

We arrived late at night so it was nice to come to a hotel with a 24 hour front desk. The room was spacious and quiet. The hotel offered a bagged breakfast and we had an early flight, so we ordered one and we were pleasantly surprised. It arrived on time and was fine for what we needed. Overall, it was a short, but pleasant experience.

Very good hotel located in the city center, so everything is close. I was traveling by bicycle and was given a safe place to store it during my stay. Very nice service and nice breakfast. Trouble-free check-in and the ability to leave and return at any time, which is useful when hunting the northern lights.
