Great location across from the train station and if it's raining, like it was when we arrived, you can walk all the way under an awning. This is a very nice hotel, comfortable beds and a decent size room. Free coffee and tea in the lobby. Large, relaxing sento on the 9th floor that we used every day. We would definitely stay here again and we really liked Takamatsu.

The hotel was about a 5-10 minute walk from the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful. My sons speak Japanese, which was very handy when checking in. We had a lovely, spotlessly clean room and enjoyed using the onsen late in the evening. There was a vending machine by the lift and gifts for purchase in the reception area.

The hotel was only a short walk from the train station and located on the main boulevard. The room was reasonably large in size and the bed was comfortable. Great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of major cities in Japan, also a perfect jumping-off point for exploring islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a bit sleepy and not tourist oriented, but that’s part of the charm. Plus, some of the best udon i’ve ever had.

Takamatsu is a wonderful city to explore, and it has famous sites such as Ritsurin Garden and Yashima Temple. It has lots of options for shopping and eating, and beautiful views from many locations. There's also an opportunity to take Udon making class and visit nearby islands. Udon and other local delicacies are easy to find and excellent.

Takamatsu - like the rest of Shikoku - is chronically overlooked by most tourists it Japan in favor of the traditional ‘Big Name’ places like Osaka & Kyoto, but that doesn’t make it any less deserving of your visitation. On the contrary, the fact there are relatively few tourists means you can enjoy it all to yourself!
For one, it’s easily accessible. Arriving from Okayama on the Shinkansen, take the Marine Liner and you’ll be there in an hour. Even better, the ride is amazing with the views from the Seto Sea bridges that you cross giving you phenomenal views of the waters and islands between Honshu & Shikoku.
Once you arrive, you’ll find everything is nearby: the compact city center means that most attractions are easily & quickly accessible, together with plentiful shopping & dining areas.
But best of all is the beauty you’ll find here: The waves of the sea lapping the shore, the views for miles around from the top of the Icon Tower, nearby islands you can explore with a short boat ride, and cultural attractions like Shikoku Village and Ritsurin Koen that easily rival anything you can find in Kyoto.
Takamatsu is a hidden gem that just happens to be on the side of Japan where tourists don’t tread. But as lamentable as it is that it doesn’t get its deserved recognition, the absence of tourists is a good thing in that you can enjoy it without having to worry about crowds!

The 'Ritsurin Garden' is probably the finest garden in Japan and was my first 'target'. Although I arrived at 09:00 and spent over 4-hrs in the Garden, I only managed to take in the South Garden. I really should have allowed some extra time to complete the North Garden as well but tiredness and the need to continue on to other destinations prevailed. Please note that the garden opens at sunrise throughout the year; in September that means they open at 05:30am! Had I known that, I would headed there much earlier.
My second 'target' in visiting Takamatsu was to visit the latter temples (Temples 78 ~ 87) on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Most of these (as well as Ritsurin Garden) are fairly accessible from the various lines of the Kotoden Electric Railway, so I would recommend purchasing day passes for frequent travel on the Kotoden.

Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsin Garden, Takamatsu Castle are the sites to see in town and there are others in town as well. Surprisely, every major European designer has a store in this town as well. And there are other interesting towns nearby. Kurashiki and Kotahira are steeped in tradition with not a lot if Western travelers.

We had a lot of fun driving over the huge bridges to get there, and were so surprised at the size of this town/city! It was a lot bigger than expected and took some time to actually reach the hotel! This isn't really reflected in the map! We could have stayed much longer to enjoy the scenery and city but hadn't planned it in itinerary. So, I can't comment well on what it has to offer as we were time poor. But, driving thru and staying for a night was a very enjoyable experience using both bridges to the island! A lovely area.
I particularly enjoyed the location; a short walk from the nearest Kotoden Station and the hotel is physically connected to the Central Takamatsu Shopping Arcades, Arriving by taxi in a rainstorm; after check-in, I was immediately able to stroll around some 2.7km of covered shopping arcades, (including luxury shops, department stores, restaurants, etc.), without the need for an umbrella.
Rooms well equipped; particularly impressed by the provision of extra pillows in the room, as I need to elevate my head whilst sleeping.
good (if industrial) view from the room, conveniently near to a local train station & shops, with easy stroll to the harbor and the ferry terminal... the neighborhood, though somewhat seedy, had an interesting warehouse-cum-fishing district shita-machi style atmosphere...
also, the hotel has a good selection of complementary food & drinks and a rather tasty breakfast.... the specialty curry was particularly good.
This is our second time with Fav Hotel. We stayed at Fav Hotel Kumamoto last year and we had a good time. So. I decided to choose this hotel Chainoi again.
Excellent choice for family with small kids. Comfortable beds with enough space to move around. The room feel likes home with washing machine and small kitchen. The bathroom, which has a special function to dry our clothes after washing, is quite cool.
The breakfast selection was pretty good. The hotel have a selection of various pillows for you to take to your room (you will likely need to take one). The staff member on the desk was very polite, too. The place is close to Kotoden Kawaramachi station (short ride from Takamatsu-chikko station, nearby the JR station) for quick access to the port.
The staff members are really helpful and responsive.
Spacious room with comfy beds.
But bear in mind that you have to take local train to kawaramachi to get to the hotel after getting out from Takamatsu jr station. It's not very difficult to find the local train station but it's not easy either.
* Location is just a few minutes walk from Kawaramachi station on Kotoden line (probably the coolest local train in Japan)
* Close to so many restaurants
* If you opt for booking lounge access, you get endless coffee + alcohol at night
* Room is spacious by Japanese standards
Standard business hotel close to train/bus station. It fit my own practical needs. The location won't fit someone's wish for a scenic/atmospheric location. I appreciated being able to open my room window. Optional breakfast was a good deal, considering that I'm a light eater.
Great hotel, big bedroom, quite freshly decorated, very good breakfast with lots of options. Very convenient location 1 min from train station and 5-10 min walk from central area. Great views. Great service
It was good to have a beer while listening to music on the veranda at night. Kawaramachi Station and Takamatsu Airport were two minutes away from the limousine stop, so it was very convenient.
It was typical old style ryokan, I don't mind for the facility. Very quiet and close to Water.
Easy access from Takamatsu Train station or ferry terminal by local bus service.
The hotel was in a great location. Close to restaurants and near to the train station. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very helpful and efficient. Highly recommended
- Excellent location, main station is just a few mins away and there are lots of restaurants and shops nearby.
- The room looks brand new on the inside.
