Academy Plaza Hotel, hotel in Dublin

Just off O'Connell Street, Academy Plaza Hotel is a 5-minute walk from Connolly Train Station. The hotel features stylish, air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, an on-site restaurant.

The location of being on O'Connell street is a very good spot, it feels very safe and it's easy to access all sorts of things from here like the buses to hop on tours / day trips / the airport or walk to temple bar area or anything like that. Definitely a tourist area though, if you're looking for the "local" experience you'll have to travel outside of this street (we didn't mind though because we are tourists and we like to not accidentally end up in a shady neighborhood tbh). The bathroom was fairly spacious, lots of counter space. Though strangely the shower only had a glass wall for halfway and also the knobs were well labelled but took a moment to figure out. Also we thought we had them mastered but then the temperatures didn't work as expected? Turning it colder got hotter so idk what happened. Also shower was only stocked with shampoo, no body wash or conditioner. (It does seem like conditioner isn't common throughout ireland) Overall this spot did its job of keeping us sheltered and giving us a spot to sleep, but nothing to write home about. Definitely doesn't feel worth the price but that's Dublin for ya.

FAQs about hotels in Dublin

Great History, Greenery & Pubs

Dublin is home to more than a quarter of the entire Republic of Ireland’s population and was originally founded as a Viking settlement. A lot has changed from those Viking days, and Dublin is now famous for its literary history and the most green spaces of any European capital, making Dublin a real Irish gem.

Dublin Castle is at the heart of the city's history and Trinity College houses the renowned Book of Kells, a beautifully illustrated manuscript from circa 800 AD. The Ha’penny Bridge is the city’s most photographed landmark and the statue of Molly Malone celebrates the heroine of Dublin’s unofficial anthem.

Dublin is home to many important literary figures including Oscar Wilde, William Yeats, Samuel Beckett and George Bernard Shaw. As the famous location of James Joyce’s “Ulysses”, the city offers tours tracing the protagonist’s footsteps.

As one of the youngest European cities, Dublin has vibrant nightlife with the popular Temple Bar area and plenty of bars and pubs, which invite you to stay out until the wee hours of the morning.

Dublin Airport is the gateway to your Irish vacation, so whether you’re looking for a stylish hotel, an independent apartment or a trendy hostel, Booking.com has a perfect deal for your Dublin trip.

    The must-go city.

The must-go city. Note that hotels are pretty expensive, but you can still find decent ones for an adequate amount. There are many day tours from Dublin to other cities, but I recommend having a 2-3 days for each, like Cork, Galway, Belfast (you may need a separate visa), and others. In Dublin, do not miss Guinness Storehouse (1.5-2 hours), Jameson Distillery (1.5 - 2 hours), Irish Whiskey Museum (~1 hour), Temple Bar area, Phoenix Park (you can spend the day there), Dublin Zoo (2-4 hours), Howth (1-day working tour), in-Dublin working tours. Museums, opera, theaters. Besides hotels, prices are moderate. Expect 7-50 Euro per person per meal, depending on the place. Shopping is quite attractive, but electronics look too expensive. Note city transport is not well developed; however, we have not faced the issues in that respect. If using more than 2-3 times daily (in-city transport), go for TFI cards; otherwise, just have Euro coins. The usual trip is 1.70 Euro AND YOU DO NOT GET CHANGE, so it is better to have an exact amount, or you end up paying 2 Euro per trip. The ticket is valid for 1.5 hours.

I am 70, with MS and as a consequence I find walking difficult and require rest as I move around. I noticed that benches and seating were impossible to find in Dublin and elsewhere and had to rest in bars, which isn’t really appropriate. it appears that reducing rest areas is intentional, possibly to counter the homeless, but I would warn aged tourists and those with disabilities to think twice when planning a trip.

The weather was exceptionally well for the time of year (April). Sunny and warm. There's a pub practically in every street so no need to be thirsty. My favourite place was the promenade along the river Liffey. And the area around Grafton Street.

Dublin during the day seems to be a safe enough city.

Dublin during the day seems to be a safe enough city. At night, it becomes a different place. There are no visible police except when driving with their sirens on. Drug use and homeless people are sleeping and hanging out everywhere. The lighting along the river is dim. The tents pop up and according to our guide are people who are illegally living in the country. I would not go out at night alone. There are many wonderful parks and museums to see. The Botanical Gardens is beautiful. The Gravedigger's Pub next to the cemetery is great for lunch. Anthony Bourdain had their coddle, as did we. Try to stay in a place near all the restaurants and attractions because getting a taxi is tough during rush hours.

Location was perfect for city centre. Room was a good size, lovely and clean. House maids and all staff very friendly. I come to Ireland on a regular basis to meet family. I will definitely be staying here again. I stayed in a triple room with friends. They loved it too. My elderly parents also stayed in the hotel. They were very happy with the location and the facilities. I left some clothing behind. The hotel rang me and have kindly put them in the post.

Amazing experience from start to finish. As it was our honeymoon, they upgraded us to the Royal Suite at no extra charge. The suite was simply the best place we've ever stayed. Rainwater shower, huge comfortable 4 poster bed, and our own observatory complete with telescope so we could see all of Dublin. The meals were good and the staff was friendly and accommodating. It was expensive considering it’s €17 Cab fare each way to the city. (Approximately 12-15 mins in car to city centre) very clean and comfortable though. Also cleaners were there dead on 11am and practically escorted us out the door, being in Ireland you would expect them to be a little friendlier, they barely said hi to us but walked out to lock the door after us, I found that strange for such a renowned friendly City such as Dublin.

This was a great stay in an expensive city. The location is convenient to the city centre and transport options. The room was comfy but cold, the hotel is located în Dublin 4 which is not so far from the city centre and the breakfast was great
