FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Cairo is a cheap city that Uber taxi is recommended. Tour can be booked through Viator. Our experience is good. Prepare exact fare for underground as the staff tends to give you less for change. 8 EGP for less than 9 stations.

Cairo has a serious love/hate for me.

Cairo has a serious love/hate for me. It has some of the world's must-see historic attractions, but man there is always someone trying to scam you, take advantage of you, pressure you into "tipping them." Luxor has a lot to see and has some of that same annoying, scammy, aggressive sales culture, but in comparison, I would say Luxor is a way better city to visit for longer. Cairo 2 days, 3 days tops, is all you really need...do a full day trip for the local views/sphinx/pyramids, another day for the museum, and get out of there. Egypt is much more than just Cairo, if you have time visit Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel (I took a private transfer from city to city as I like my freedom to do and go where I want when I want, but many choose to do a Nile cruise to visit all these cities)

I enjoyed my stay in Cairo. It was pleasant. However, the best time to visit Cairo is the winter time ( OCT-JAN) as it was was very hot.Remember to drink plenty of water. Its a good practice to pay tips in small but frequent amount not exceeding 50 Egyptian pounds.

Cairo was definitely one for the books.

Cairo was definitely one for the books. I stayed at Holy Sheet Plus multiple times during my trip, and honestly, that place made the whole experience smoother. From airport pickups to helping plan multi-city tours (including a Nile cruise!), the staff were always on point—shoutout to the team that runs it like clockwork. Favorite places? Definitely the Egyptian Museum, Tahrir Square, and just wandering around Old Cairo. That area really gives you a feel for everyday local life—busy, a little chaotic, but full of character. Eating spots? The rooftop lounge at Holy Sheet Plus had surprisingly good traditional food and fresh juice, and the prices were fair—no tourist rip-off vibes. That said, Cairo’s street food is also a must-try if you're up for some adventure. Getting around? It’s a mix. Ride-share apps can be hit or miss, especially near airports or crowded spots, so I’d recommend booking pickups and longer trips through your accommodation. The bus station near Tahrir Square is handy if you're heading to other cities. Solo travel? Totally doable. Cairo might seem hectic at first, but once you find your rhythm, it’s awesome. I met people at the hostel, joined some small group tours, and honestly just enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere. My advice? Lower your expectations a bit, don’t sweat the weird details (like beds being too high or Wi-Fi dropping for a second), and focus on the little wins—sunshine, street cats, good food, and those moments when everything just clicks. That’s how you enjoy Cairo (or anywhere, really).

Our last night in Egypt was spent in this hotel after a full bore "trains, boats and automobiles" tour of Egypt. After a hectic 6 days, it was the ultimate pleasure to stretch out on a sunbed and relax. The Buffet breakfast was an international feast, the best meal for a week. Staff throughout were courteous, attentive and efficient. bizarrely drinks whilst expensive were cheaper than the Novotel next door (an old haunt). The airport shuttle out was timely on departure and quick to get to our terminal.
