You can't even walk out of the front door of the hotel without 3-5 taxi drivers tail you demanding you to take a taxi.. After that every taxi driver stops next to you also demanding to go with him and if you leave the streets and go through the pazar every one will try to sell you something.. anything from souvenirs to live animals or even meats.. Off course nowhere (in all the Egypt..) they don't know about hygiene and you have to be prepared that some nights are going to pass on the toilet seat.. Never again in Egypt, NEVER!
Egypt has a reputation for being hard work for the average tourist. It is all true and wholly deserved. And no, I am not a shrinking violet and I would say that I was pretty well travelled. I will not go back. This is not the way I normally travel, but if I were to do this again, I would prebook all of my tours with a reputable firm, be picked up, shown around with a local guide and then dropped back at my hotel. I was ripped off, scammed, lied to, short changed and everything in between, trying to do tours locally with local tour firms. It was a very bad experience, despite there being some wonderful things to see. I do not want to be constantly on my guard, constantly wary and treated with such misogyny - from being snorted and spat at in an Air Egypt office by a local man who thought he could forcibly make me physically step back because he wanted to push in a queue in front of me to being completely ignored like I don't exist. Egyptian manners and views of solo women were an eye opener. The bad experiences in all honesty outweighed the good.
One of the best temples in Egypt. My only recommendation is to go in the morning. Luxor is the only temple that stays open until 8pm so EVERY SINGLE PERSON goes to other temples first and ends their tour at Luxor. It gets extremely crowded towards late afternoons and early evenings. I did the east and west banks tour in one day (which I recommend) but decided to go to Luxor again in the morning to experience the temple less crowded. Turns out I had the temple all to myself as it was empty and my pictures were amazing.
The environment of the area. I like the agriculture and green area around the Nile. It was also very wonderful to go into the desert, a very powerful and wonderful experience to go for a hike in the desert. Only annoying thing in Luxor are the local people. They are constantly approaching tourists and begging them to buy services or sometimes even just begging for money.
Luxor has so much to offer, we knew before we arrived that our stay would be far too short, but we will come back. The Valley of the Kings, Queens and Hatshepsut for the basis of the west bank and can take at least a couple of hours per site. We also fitted in Howard Carters House which gave depth and understanding to just how all these Tombs were discovered and then preserved. It was a punishing day and took around 6 hours. You need a guide to get you from site to site and these are we suspect far cheaper if hired from the West Bank. Day 2 was more relaxed Karnak Temple took most of the morning, but it is not currently possible to walk the full length of the Avenue of the Sphinxes, this is still being finished off. We did well to concentrate our time on each bank separately, the ferry across is very cheap, around LE5 per person, but it does take 20 minutes and you should avoid taking a taxi as it's a full 45-minute journey. We also took time to see the evening Sound and Light show at Karnak, this was quite expensive at LE500 per person, but for any children, it was easily worth it, it's fun and put things into perspective and you get to see the Temple being used, which is good. I'll leave it there but hopefully gives an idea. We spent the afternoon on a Falucca, which is another must-do, the design of the boats has not changed in millennia.
We booked a 4 day 3 night Nile cruise. The sites we visited were awesome, but being part of a tour group meant we had lots of time pressure to stick to a schedule. This did make the sight seeing quite rushed and one could not take everything in
West Bank, Luxor
Luxor Palace was our favorite stay during our trip. We loved being close to fields and farm animals rather than the noise and commotion of the East Bank. It's a short walk and quick boat ride from the heart of the East Bank. The view from the rooftop was amazing - the Nile in one direction and the West Bank sites (like Hapshetsut's Temple) in the other. The breakfasts were always fresh and were the best we had in Egypt. The staff were very attentive to our needs and helped arrange our travel to and from the hotel.
One of the best value for money hotels I've ever stayed in. Egypt isn't a careless destination in terms of accessibility, cleanliness and comfort, but in the New Memnon hotel we were in the most friendly atmosphere, experiencing all the best features of the country and protected from it's less pleasant characteristics. Virtually everything was enjoyable - the rooms, the views, the food, the garden, the location, the stuff. Special thanks the hotel owner, Mr. Said, who made our stay there just magical.
The hosts are amazing and very very nice! They truly care that their guests have a great experience in the way YOU want. Best of all, they honestly provide you with all the information needed to explore Luxor without being pushy to take their services unlike oftentimes in Egypt. They helped to save us a great deal by pointing out local shops and transportation. The Egyptian breakfast was also great and the restaurant has a great view on the West Bank monuments! Thank you for having us!
The location of the hotel is the best thing! we loved being on the west bank of Luxor, far from the crowds of the city. The hotel itself is very nice and clean, and it has amazing views from the roof top! We arrived very early in the morning and they offered to prepare breakfast for us, which was a very nice detail. We could also make the laundry and they didn’t want to charge us extra money. It has been, probably, the best hotel in Egypt we’ve been. Unbeatable quality-price.
We had an amazing stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful with anything we needed, plus they were very accommodating to our needs and wants. The room is clean and comfortable with good AC and fan. There is also a swimming pool which makes the heat a bit more bearable. Included in the price was a wonderful breakfast, by far the best we’ve had at any Egyptian hotel. All in all we had a great stay and would recommend Luxor Pyramids Hotel.
West Bank, Luxor
The staff and the owner were very nice and friendly, very helpful. Their breakfast is one of the best I have and in all over Egypt which helpmake our entire day, house us enough energy for busy hectic temple visits for the entire day. They have one of the best views all day and espicially during the evening when the Luxor temple is lit up it's clearly visible from the roof top dining are and it an amazing place to just hang out and chill.
The plan was to stay here just one night, in the end, we stayed for three nights. Because we were upgraded to one of the rooms of Sofitel Winter Palace with balcony. We loved everything about this hotel, unique history, English style, the most beautiful garden in Egypt, location, delicious breakfasts, and even the live traditional music performance in the lobby. The staff was super nice and helpful. We would love to come back one day.
The hotel is in a quiet area and has an amazing view over the nile. Especially the time at sunset is incredible. The room is nice with a comfortable bed. Wifi was available in every area of the hotel and worked well. The breakfast buffet was also various and had something for anyone... from omlette to waffels and traditional egyptian breakfast. The Concierge was also very helpful and gave us good advices.
The Steigenberger Nile Palace Luxor is a great choice for a visit to Luxor. Aside from the facilities and view on offer, the staff (in particular Mostafa, one of the hotel managers) is very attentive to guests from the point of arrival until departure, in contrast to other Egyptian hotels. The location is also good nestled on the Nile's banks and in Luxor's centre.
West Bank, Luxor
Nice, clean rooms. Great panoramic views of the Nile and the mountains. The owner, Ahmed, is the best tour guide we've had in Egypt and his tours are very good value. If you're going to visit any sites in Luxor, make sure you have him by your side.
The best hotel we stayed in Egypt. The hotel itself is beautiful throughout the entire enormous property. Breakfast was fantastic and the service was perfect. It seems strange to mention but the wifi was unexpectedly fast as well.
All was perfect! Our best experience in Egypt! Even in the last day, we did the check-out to do a tour in Luxor, and when we returned the hotel let us enjoy the Swimming pool.
Great tradition Egyptian Hotel. With exceptional friendly staff. a big shout out to Ahmed on reception very helpful and friendly guy.
