The jungle location meant we saw howlers, capuchins, agouti and other animals close up and to ourselves. This was quite exciting. At first appearance it looks promising … but …

This was an unbelievably beautiful property! The dining area, pool side, and property are exceptional! The view from this hilltop location was great; it was breezy and pleasant even on a hot day. The staff were very kind and welcoming and the food is fabulous!! The included breakfast is wonderful and we had 2 delicious dinners as well. Great atmosphere!

Gabriel at the front desk was the best. Super kind and attentive, made our stay significantly better. The pool area is excellent and the rooms were clean. Wifi is speedy with the occasional stuttering but I was able to do several video calls with no problems.

You must have a car to get around to the beaches of Montezuma and the roads are rough. Grocery stores are hard to find if you want to cook at all in your rented villa. Ocean super warm and wonderful--loved Tambor beach. Wonderful fresh fish market there.

Very small town with little to do. 3-5 nights is more than enough time to see the area. Tourists (and locals) on loud motorbikes and ATVs are everywhere day and night. Not the quiet jungle getaway we imagined.

Montezuma is such a great place.
Montezuma is such a great place. So chilled, the locals are so welcoming and it just does its own thing. There are a number of good places to eat in the very small town so try everywhere out especially in the farthest reaches of town. And shop around for trips. There can be quite a difference in price with the different outlets.
During turtle hatching season, be sure to go to the beach to the left of the town and you'll see them dug up and then marching to the sea. It's a heartwarming and unique experience. Also, go back to that beach at night to see the most wonderful stars.

Small but charming and lively resort.
Small but charming and lively resort. Excellent restaurants (particularly fish dishes in 'los Artesanos') and cafes and very easy to book tours through local operators. Crashing rollers and risk of dangerous riptides made swimming somewhat risky, though ideal for surfers. A 40 minute walk along beachside path to north brings you to the magnificent beach of Playa Grande where swimming is a little safer, if not risk-free. A short walk to the south is Montezuma waterfall; it's a must-see although access requires proper footwear and some scrambling/rope work. Swimming in the refreshing pool and launching oneself from the adjacent rocks beneath the falls is highly recommended; not so, climbing up the slippery rocks immediately adjacent to the waterfall as exhibited by some foolhardy locals!

This is a very welcoming place made with a thought for the guests and their comfort! It has everything you need for a top experience, the team was perfect - they take care of all you may need, so you can simply be and enjoy life at the Montezuma beaches! Having the option to cook your own meal, makes it perfect for families with children, but very near-by there are also good restaurants - from 5 stars ones to the simple Sodas - and if you can - dont miss the Soda (Artesanos) nearby, the food there was superb and the prices - surprising in a good way!

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe. Moreover, there are many things to do around: hiking, surfing, swimming, watching bioluminescence, trip to the Isla de Tortuga is also possible.
There are plenty of beaches around, which are within walking distance.
Despite its size, there are a few very decent restaurants where I would like to go back.
If you are not looking for a crazy party place, it's a fantastic spot for a vacation.
Hotel Nya is close to the center of town in Montezuma, not far from the beach. They arranged a bioluminescence tour for us, and a driver came to pick us up right from the property. We didn't get to stay long as we only had 1 night and left very early to catch a ferry, but the staff was very accommodating and provided us with fruit since we would miss the breakfast the next day. The grounds were really lovely and the pool area was beautiful. Wish we had more time there.
I don't know what other people are complaining about. This is a solid option in Montezuma. It's centrally located right next to the bus stop, close to the restaurants, park, supermarket, beach, etc. Wifi was good enough for me to work remote. Beds were comfortable, included breakfast was great and the facilities were sufficient. The workers were friendly and spoke good enough English if you can't speak Spanish.
The location was great! The house is close to the town of Montezuma with its beach and multitude of restaurants. It is just 100 yards or so from a zipline canopy tour which I highly recommend. Despite being close to so many things, the house itself is quiet, hardly any noises except natural ones...like howler monkeys! The host is really sweet and outgoing; she will make you feel right at hime.
This is a small family hotel right next to the bus stop in Montezuma center so you can walk everywhere. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with an amazing view of the ocean. Fast WiFi so I had no trouble getting some work done. Blanca and Romano were super friendly and accommodating to all our needs. Would stay again and I would definitely recommend it if you want peace and quiet.
Loved our apartment and the balcony with a spectacular view. We had lots of privacy which we enjoyed. The staff were helpful when needed and the kitchen was pretty well equipped as we made some of our own meals, Montezuma itself was a drive away but it was nice to be in the hills and enjoying the wildlife (butterflies, birds, iguanas etc) and peace and quiet.
We stayed in room number 4. It had a wonderful cross breeze with a window looking out towards the ocean and another facing the beach so with the multiple fans the heat/humidity was manageable without A/C. Loved the live music during the day from the restaurant next door. Within meters of the beach and all the stores/restaurants in the heart of Montezuma.
We had a very good time at Aves Hotel. It is a great spot from where to explore beautiful Montezuma. The hotel is up the hill, a very short drive from the village center. The owner and his team were all very attentive and made us feel at home. The girls loved the pools. it wasn’t always easy to convince them to leave the hotel.
Have stayed at Pura Vida Hostel Montezuma many, many times throughout my travels to Costa Rica. Each time returning to beautiful Montezuma I book myself in to Pura Vida Hostel. Love this hostel. Clean, friendly and with helpful staff members. Thank you guys for being so very welcoming.
We had a really good time at Hotel El Jardin. Great location in the centre of Montezuma but still cozy and private. Walking distance to all nice restaurants ane the beach. The pool is very nice. Also, staff was great, especially Gabriel from the reception.
I enjoyed the accessibility to the beach, waterfalls and restaurants, cafes, bars. The beach is feet from the hotel. The staff are friendly, caring and understanding. The cleaning manager was great at helping you with utensils, towels and other issues.
Whether it’s the gorgeous pool, very friendly and helpful staff, or social atmosphere - I couldn’t recommend Luz En El Cielo highly enough :) It was also very close to town but still in a secluded area and made for a perfect home base in Montezuma.
The atmosphere and the personal approach from the owner were spectacular. The house was incredibly neat and everything was really clean. Other beaches are near and it's almost a few minutes from Montezuma.
I definitely recommend this place to stay.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the restaurant was wonderful. Breakfast bowl smoothie was the best. And had the best nights sleep in the massive King size bed.
Access to the pool at Ylang Ylang hotel was the cherry on the cake!
We liked the overall vibe of the hotel.
It is located in the small village of beautiful Montezuma village, next to shops, restaurants and bars. Wonderful pool area, beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, friendly staff. Would stay there again.
Super chill and helpful staff. The hotel location is right in the heart of Montezuma, as well as at the beach. The restaurant garden is just perfect place for morning remote-working sessions.
Really enjoyed staying there.
The view on the ocean and the beach. The balcony in front of the room. Located right in the middle of Montezuma. Good accomodation for a group of people traveling together, staying a few days in the area.
A really beautiful place set amongst the jungle, the team there were very friendly and helpful. Minutes by foot from montezuma. Lovely and clean with a great pool. Would definitely go back.
Blanca is an amazing host and such a friendly person. The house is more of a "home-stay" than a hotel and you really feel like you're a part of the culture there.
